Job Description
We are seeking a Linux Admin for a 6 month contract-to-hire in Las Vegas, NV. The Linux Administrator’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house applications and the infrastructure they run on including servers, storage arrays, tape libraries and other data center infrastructure components. The Linux Administrator must be capable of installing, upgrading, managing, monitoring, administering and supporting all the IT Operations Data Center equipment and systems. This is a technical hands-on position that requires working in data centers to support the infrastructure both onsite and remote locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work independently and as a team member of the System Administrators group to support the data center infrastructure

• Create and maintain documentation as it relates to data center infrastructure installation, configuration, maintenance and service records.

• Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for system administration, usage, and disaster recovery.

• Provide updates to Lead staff/managers on detailed project plans, schedules, and related project documentation

• Deploy IT enterprise infrastructure, including servers, storage arrays, tape libraries, application appliances, switches, Firewalls, UPSs, and other hardware.

• Interact with vendors on data center products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the data center/infrastructure industry.

• Participate in deploying new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.

• Configure infrastructure to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.

• Respond to monitoring alerts/pages and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.

• Monitor and manage nightly jobs, backups, server performance and provide system performance statistics and reports.

• Participate in managing system backup and recovery process and procedures.

Qualifications

• 5 years of Linux Administration experience
• Bachelors Degree
• Strong troubleshooting skills across various technologies are required to analyze and resolve hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide support to business users and other IT groups.
• Knowledge of Solaris and HP-UX operating systems, VMWare and Solaris containers.
• Understanding of key protocols and systems such as: NFS, DNS, SMTP, SNMP, HTTP, DHCP, TCP/IP, HA, RAID, SAMBA, SOLARIS JUMP START.
• Understanding of and ability to script in: shell, perl.
• Knowledge and ability to administer several of the following applications: Sendmail, DNS, NIS, Veritas NetBackup, Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Cluster Server, Sun DiskSuite, Storage Area Network.
• Able to maintain and troubleshoot a VPN remote access implementation

Additional Information
This contract-to-hire opportunity is located onsite in Las Vegas, NV. This position will be Monday-Friday during normal business hours with some on-call responsibilities and flexibility in hours for installs.
