This is paraprofessional/professional work which involves some supervisory tasks as well as service to the public. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed for performance.

Example of Duties:

  • Provides excellent customer service to library users whether in person, on the phone or on-line.
  • Assist Librarians and Supervisors with scheduling or supervision of a unit or facility in their absence.
  • Assist with collection maintenance. Examples include selecting, processing and weeding.
  • Plan and conduct age appropriate programs for children and/or adults.
  • Prepare and teach classes, both formal and informal, for adults on topics such as technology.
  • Provide reader advisory assistance to library customers.
  • Use social media to inform users about library services.
  • Impromptu Public Speaking to small groups within the library about services available is possible.
  • May be asked to assist with light custodial tasks.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May count revenue and prepare financial reports.
  • Provide statistical reports monthly.
  • Represent the Library at professional conferences, meetings and workshops.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university.
  • One (1) year of experience in a library setting or office.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid state of Florida Driver’s license.
  • Must maintain a valid telephone number.
  • May be required to work overtime, or alternate hours, as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
  • Position may be designated as Mission Critical by Department Director.

Supplemental Information:

  • Proficient in the use of a computer to include keyboard skills.
  • Proficient in the use of electronic devices such as smart phones, tablets, IPads, eReaders, etc.
  • Experience navigating the internet to find information.
  • Knowledge of sources both in print and online to assist users with their questions and request.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in public libraries.
  • Ability to interact with library users in an efficient and courteous manner.
  • Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely in written and oral form.
  • Ability to address library users in person when behaviors become a problem.
  • Ability to interpret, communicate and facilitate information, goals, concerns, directives, etc. to co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain an organized work space.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff members and others in the library at the local, regional and state levels.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

  • Requires sedentary work that involves walking and standing some of the time, exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a recurring basis, as well as routine keyboard operations.
  • The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception and texture perception.
