Learning & Development Manager

Location: Portsmouth, NH

Primary Function: The Learning and Development Manager will oversee the efforts of the Learning and Development team to create and facilitate best in class new hire orientation, job-specific training, and ongoing learning programs. The incumbent will partner with HR and department managers to ensure the effectiveness and performance of individual and group training techniques and programs are consistent with the Credit Union’s organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities:
Oversees new employee orientation sessions and on-the-job training, including use of computers and software; conducts training on a variety of topics including products and services, sales, ergonomic and safety practices, supervisory, and refresher and system upgrades and conversion training.

Approves and assists in formulating training programs and determines instructional methods, utilizing individual training, group instructions, demonstrations, and workshops; selects or develops training aids such as handbooks, visual aids, and tutorials. Leverages and expands existing technology solutions, including the intranet, to deliver innovative and cost-effective learning. Partners with Compliance Officer and colleagues to ensure appropriate training methods are used for annual compliance training. Manages on-line learning vendor relationship.

Evaluates and assists in designing training manuals and related materials, training classes, and training procedures.

Oversees the daily operations of department; hires, trains, coaches, directs, and evaluates employee performance within the department; recommends promotions/transfers and salary adjustments. Makes recommendations for the learning and development budget.

Experience and Qualifications:
Five years to eight years of experience in a training role at a financial services company, preferably a credit union or bank.

Minimum of three years of direct management experience.

Previous banking experience preferred.

On-line or web-based training experience.

Curriculum design experience.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Strong presentation skills and the ability to facilitate training sessions with any size class.

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels within the organization.

Excellent understanding of adult learning theories and training principles.

Strong coaching and mentoring skills.

Excellent computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.

Very good attention to detail.

Critical thinker.

Team Player.

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as finance, marketing, human resources, education.
