Lead Scientific Systems Developer

Create, define and customize primarily Linux, but also Windows platforms to develop future infrastructure and services for use by the ICBR and its clients. Employ technologies and approaches such as Virtualization, GPFS, LDAP, SGE, SELinux, Python, Kerberos and virtual desktop infrastructure, and cloud computing frameworks to take advantage of ICBR’s infrastructure while maximizing resources and providing integration both with CI scientific services as well as campus centralized services.

Manage ICBR’s existing Linux server and scientific computing infrastructure and services. Assist with managing desktop and productivity infrastructure. Deploy and maintain services such as centralized storage, file sharing, automated update and patching, backup and imaging of servers, desktops, etc. Document and train CI support and help desk staff to handle requests for help and service and correct issues outside the scope or expertise of help desk staff.

Work with ICBR bioinformatics and scientific staff members and in some cases customers to support and scale ICBR’s research computing, data management, and instrumentation services. Update and edit related documentation for future use by ICBR and CI staff.

Manage new and existing services and hardware infrastructure with a level of security compliant with UFIT and HealthNet security policies. Participate in development, review and maintenance of ICBR’s UFIT-compliant policies.

Maintain knowledge currency through reading, self-studying, on-line and face-to-face learning activities and interactions.

Advertised Salary:

Annual salary of $48,000-$60,000, negotiable based on experience and education.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

A BS in computer science and demonstrable experience with managing infrastructure (Windows and Linux) through automation, experience with mobile devices, and experience with UF’s centralized services like Active Directory, Exchange, etc. is desirable.

Communication, management and supervision must include significant organization skills and experience in the integration and coordination of end-to-end processes; be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written media; and have experience in evaluating systems, assembling of necessary hardware and infrastructure, interviewing and recommending personnel for hire, training personnel, maintaining production statistics and developing and maintaining a budget.

Must be able to work independently to solve problems and meet deadlines, as well as work well with others in a team environment.
