Job Summary

This position will report to the Director of Liability Claims, Litigation and Large Loss. This position will be responsible for the prompt and thorough investigation and resolution of the company’s most complex liability claims and lawsuits. The position requires familiarity with handling complex claims nationwide including claims involving fatalities, amputations, traumatic brain injury and other significant injuries. The candidate must be familiar with the adjustment of high exposure claims including claims valued at $1,000,000 to $10,000,000. The position requires a person capable of handling claims involving general negligence, vehicle accidents, products liability and negligent entrustment allegations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Review underlying claim facts, evaluate the exposure and develop and implement a resolution strategy of assigned claims including high exposure, complex Automobile and General Liability casualty claims.

Researches and investigates potential primary/secondary/excess insurance coverage issues and identifies potential contributing insurance policies. Assesses the interplay of jurisdictional laws on the rental contract terms and conditions and all applicable policies.

Collaborative communications with our renters, field operations, and counsel, to achieve timely and accurate resolution.

Timely and concise updates inputted into our claims computer system showing issue recognition and resolution strategy.

Timely and concise preparation of reports to senior leadership providing a thorough analysis of liability and damages.

Maintain appropriate reserving and control loss adjustment expenses.

Provide training to field claims team.

Attend mediations, court conferences and trials as necessary.

Special projects and other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Required Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business or related field

Minimum 7 years bodily injury claim handling experience

Minimum of 3 years litigation claim handling experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Extensive large loss claim handling including claims involving significant injuries such as fatalities, amputation and traumatic brain injury.

Duly licensed to adjust claims in at least one state.

Strong working knowledge of contractual and insurance coverage issues.

Familiar with commercial automobile and general negligence claims (slip/fall).

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively work with various departments and individuals, both internally and externally.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Requires excellent analytical ability, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in teams.

Working knowledge of products liability claims, negligent entrustment/supervision preferred.

Experience in the automobile rental industry a plus.

CPCU, AIC designation, adjuster licensing program or other industry training programs a plus.

Excellent judgment and delivery-oriented attitude.

Self-motivated, have a strong sense of urgency with ability to work independently and as a team member.

Travel Requirements
