Junior Web Developer

To share and leverage information across StepStone Group’s 14 offices and global client base, multiple web applications are used to report historical performance and make better investment decisions. We are looking for a front-end developer to join our quickly growing team and assist with the expansion and maintenance of these web applications.

The primary web application is a data intensive site which also manages many work flow processes within the firm. The developer will be responsible for building tools for data entry and analysis. Additionally, the developer will handle requests for modifications to existing tools within the site. The primary focus will be on front-end development, although the candidate should also be proficient in PHP and MySQL to facilitate reading and modifying the underlying data.

The developer position will be office-based (i.e., not remote) and located in La Jolla, California.

Essential Job Functions:
Advise and take design requirements for a web based application and convert them to functional HTML/CSS web pages

Manage existing front-end JavaScript, CSS and HTML code

Convert inefficient code to new processes using modern (grunt, gulp) build tools

Develop new features from requirements for front-end, creating intuitive and user-friendly designs for data-intensive applications

Work with backend developers to connect front-end with backend resources (via API)

Build and maintain CRUD services using JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL

Provide technical support and handle minor bug fixes as necessary

Develop an understanding of StepStone’s business processes

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
1-2 years of HTML5 and CSS3 experience

1-2 years of experience with JavaScript and relevant frameworks/tools (Kendo UI, Angular, jQuery)

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required/Desired:
Proficient understanding of front-end build tools (node, grunt, gulp) and best practices.

Proficient in PHP, with the ability to work in object-oriented and procedural code

Comfortable working with version control tools (Git and Github).

Basic knowledge of MySQL and ability to write queries

Basic knowledge of UX/UI concepts

Basic knowledge of image authoring tools

Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX

Knowledge of MVC programming is a plus

Interest/knowledge of finance and investments is a plus
