Junior Usability Researcher (Internship)

Your opportunity

The first experiences our millions of customers encounter with our brands today are our physical products, however new needs are emerging for their digital counterparts in a larger connected ecosystem. At the end of Summer 2018, the Digital Accelerator needs to validate several proofs-of-concepts being created this Spring. In a fast-moving team, you will test the links between new product ideas and end users, and will be involved in all steps to prove best-in-class usability testing methods are being followed to success.

Your challenge

  • Collect testing needs, and determine priorities consistent with business goals and objectives
  • Plan, moderate and scribe usability testing groups—both remote and one-on-one sessions—to obtain user preferences and feedback
  • Present findings and recommendations in a plan that drives future design improvements
  • Generate annotations for wireframes, high-fidelity comps, and prototypes as needed
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge and understanding of different research methodologies and data analysis techniques, and train peers and other staff on those methods to build solid processes for the future
  • Work directly with the Principal Designer and research lead of the department, digital strategists, and subject matter experts, throughout prototyping proofs-of-concept
  • Collaborate directly with the larger UX practice of the Digital Accelerator team, joining design critiques with your peers and incorporating their insights into your own work

What we’re looking for

We want to see your work, and hear you explain why it is awesome. We’d love to know how you tackled issues along the way, and what roles you played in each project. Show us your whole process from research through prototypes and launch.

  • BA/BS or MA/MS in behavioral science or closely related discipline, including but not limited to: Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Psychology (Cognitive or Experimental), Interface Design, or CS
  • 2+ years of relevant working experience in Human Factors as a Usability Analyst or similar role
  • Experience with an extensive variety of usability research tools and methods (especially user-centered design processes), and involvement in running a variety of tests
  • Exhibiting strong problem solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to make sound recommendations and decisions based on observed user behavior and prior experience
  • Understanding of testing for mobile devices, for search engine optimization, and accessibility compliance
  • Comfortable interviewing and observing people in many different situations and also putting them at ease
  • Proven track record of consistently producing deliverables that are well-written and contain helpful information, providing solid and actionable recommendations
  • Demonstrable ability to synthesize volumes of disparate information, distill that into meaningful data, then effectively communicate findings to colleagues and the business in easy-to-follow readouts
  • Solid organization, project management and planning skills: detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task, and be self-directed with effective time management skills
  • Self-starter who is comfortable with minimal day-to-day guidance and independently managing deadlines

What you get

  • Expand your abilities in user research and broader aspects of user experience —we actively support you in your chosen field of expertise by giving you time, space, education, and resources
  • Working with a fast-moving, experienced team of experts in communication, where mentorship and skills matter most
  • Joining a cross-discipline mentorship program with undergrad and graduate peers in the fields or robotics, machine learning, mixed reality, and industrial and user experience design
  • A portfolio of finished project work in one of the most well-known brands
  • Paid internship with flexible hours to meet your schedule
