Junior Systems Administrator

The Junior Systems Administrator will assist with system technologies. This includes assisting with local and wide area networks, supporting end-users, and assisting with the maintenance of the corporate intranet and internet web-site. This position will require availability on nights and weekends as needed.

KNOW HOW

A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field preferred. Strong communication skills, oral and written skills, a strong sense of time management, and the ability to exercise discretion and understand confidentiality issues. Three to five years of network administration experience. A minimum of one year experience with Microsoft Windows Server (2003), Microsoft Exchange (2003), Microsoft Office Professional and Internet applications, preferred. Familiar with Windows and Exchange Server 2003, Citrix Meta frames XP, Basic routing and switching WAN, Wireless LAN/WAN, IP telephony, Active Directory domain structures, TCP/IP, the use of network utilities, and experience with Linux helpful. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Project management skills. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages and lifestyles. YMCA experience preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

Computer Certifications in Comptia A+, Network+, and/or Microsoft MCSA desired

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

  • Assist’s with the maintenance, support, and upgrade of servers, desktop PC’s, hardware, software, operating systems, software inventory, and distributed, networked printers.
  • Supports, monitors, tests, and troubleshoots hardware and software problems pertaining to the computer systems.
  • Provides end users support for all computer systems.
  • Responds to branch requests on hardware/software problems, establishes work priorities, and evaluates cost and time requirements.
  • Administer and configure Microsoft Windows Servers supporting Active Directory Services and File Sharing Services
  • Troubleshoot highly complex data and voice network and hardware problems, researches and analyzes, assess and evaluates current and future systems
  • Administer and configure VMware vSphere and Microsoft HyperV virtualization software
  • Expert knowledge of enterprise Local/Wide Area and wireless networking industry technologies
  • Troubleshoot layer 2/3 VLAN configuration and troubleshooting, port-channel and ether-channel configurations
  • Troubleshoot Cisco routing and switching issues, Cisco security appliances (ASA), and Cisco Unified Communications solutions
  • Troubleshoot network issues, monitor networks and investigate performance problems, and then documenting the problems and resolutions.
  • Respond to after-hours incidents or urgent events outside of business hours, with occasional on-site weekend coverage
  • Configure and monitor network using various network monitors
  • Administer network and server backup software
  • Work with the technology team in fostering a dynamic and collaborative environment
  • Perform other duties as directed by the CTO/Systems Administrator

Performs any other functions deemed to be necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids

COMPENSATION

$15.00hr-$17.00hr; Part Time; Non Exempt (up to 20 hours/week)
