Junior Designer

Overview Blufish is seeking a motivated Junior Designer, for a hybrid Designer/Production role, to join our company and be an essential asset to the California team, while assisting our remote locations with creative support on an as-needed basis. The Junior Designer, will be able to develop and build on the skills essential to the field of graphic design, as they work under the direction of the Art Director, while gaining vital agency experience, as they work on a variety of project types for our clients. Our California team is extremely collaborative and supportive of each other, and it is imperative that we find someone with the right personality, drive, motivation, and work ethic to bring on as another member of our work family.

Requirements The Junior Designer should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, or a related field, with 2-3 years of professional experience, preferably in an agency setting. They should have a good understanding of design principles such as layout, hierarchy, balance and composition, as represented in a bold portfolio of design work. A strong understanding of the Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop on a Mac platform, as well as the desire to stay current on design trends and technology, is a must. Additional program knowledge including AutoCAD, Flash, Microsoft Office Suite, and HTML is preferred but not required. Familiarity with print production and processes, to properly set up files for print is key and will be put to the test regularly. This position requires a high level of organization and attention to detail, techniques to optimize workflow and efficiency, strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to multitask, move quickly between projects, effectively receive feedback and criticism from senior design staff, and put it into practice on future projects. Our clients are primarily home builders and developers, so any knowledge or background working with floorplans, renderings, elevations or similar elements is a bonus! Note: On-site design test may be required.

Responsibilities The specific details of the Junior Designer’s role will vary daily, but should include:

• Supporting the Art Director and Design team through the execution of revisions to previously opened projects
• Working closely with the Account Services team to complete design tasks as assigned including ads, direct mail, flyers, brochures, eblasts, and digital banners
• Producing attractive and effective designs incorporating client comments and requirements
• Communicating effectively with senior team members to clarify project specifications and receive feedback
• Double-checking their own work to ensure errors aren’t missed and all required elements are present
• Abiding to the folder structure and project management software as utilized by the team
• Offering input at creative meetings and sharing ideas
• Occasionally required to stay beyond the hours of a typical work day until the project is completed
