Junior Cloud Systems Engineer (Amazon AWS)

This is a great opportunity to work for a top global company located in the Metrowest area. They are in the planning process of moving some of their platforms to Amazon AWS. They are looking for a junior level candidate with 1-3 years of experience working with either Linux or Windows, and some AWS experience.

This is a very junior role with 1 to 3 years of experience.

Technical: Exposure to Windows or Linux OS, Amazon platform, The Cloud, Networking, Web Servers (i.e. Apache, Tomcat) and databases.

Excellent communication skills.

This person will help migrate over to the Amazon platform.

They are seeking a sharp and assertive person who has a strong aptitude and thirst to learn more about the above mentioned technologies.

Minimum Requirements:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or Engineering (any field), or a related field of study is preferred but not required. One to two years (1 – 2) with a BA of relevant experience in systems engineering or a related occupation working with Microsoft Windows or Linux, and either shell or power shell scripting is preferred. Additional requirements include:

Two years of experience supporting a Linux or Windows based operating system including tuning and patching as well as a comprehension of active directory components

Familiarity with ITIL concepts such as change control and problem and incident management

An understanding of process automation concepts and their implementation

Exposure to backup and recovery concepts for servers and databases

Familiarity with Amazon Web Services and its components including, Cloud formation, EC2, S3, RDS, EBS, ELB. Hands-on experience is a plus

Exposure to sql, shell scripting languages such as shell or power shell, exposure to python and JavaScript is a plus

Exposure to a Database platform such as Oracle or MS SQL Server is a plus

Familiarity with the use of Tomcat and Apache for deploying basic applications

The engineer is required to have experience providing 24/7 technical support for global users

They are seeking a Systems Engineer to perform engineering functions as part of their technology team. The engineer will work across applications and technologies, including the operating systems, application middleware components, databases and load balancing. The Systems Engineer will assist application teams through providing resilient and scalable applications and databases in Amazon and their data centers. All of the applications rely on the systems engineer to tune the environment and ensure that all components are healthy and optimizing them for the maximum performance. The team provides 24/7/365 support for applications which facilitate global business processes critical to the operation of the Firm.

Specific responsibilities will include design, implementation, deployment, and support efforts for Window, Linux, and Amazon Web Services, all of which are directly related to application and database platforms. The engineer will provide formal plans to upgrade components of the platform and execute the plans with assistance from others on the team. The engineer will also perform gap analysis as it applies to the application stacks for the purpose of formulating plans to mitigate and fill gaps that pose risk to the uptime and security of applications required by the business.

Responsibilities:
Work with application teams to migrate their applications to the Amazon Cloud and automate the release and resilience of the application

Testing of all application components migrated to the Amazon Cloud to ensure resilience, reliability and required performance are achieved

Use of SQL DML and DDL to facilitate database release work

Troubleshooting operating system issues related to performance and availability

Patching the operating systems of the server platform

Day to day maintenance and support of applications in the data centers and the Amazon Cloud

Using technologies and tools available to automate operational processes which are prone to human errors

Rotational on call support – Collaborate with application teams (including offshore team) to deliver solutions and support for the Client and Enterprise Technology team

End to end involvement in application life cycle phases including devops.
