Jr. Clinical Data Scientist

Job Summary :

We are looking for a highly motivated Data Scientist to join our growing, multi-disciplinary clinical informatics research team. Your role will include developing data driven prediction models of clinical patient data; performing statistical learning over large, disparate data sets; and building visualization tools. The primary focus will be on predictive modeling of rare diseases, with the opportunity to play a key role in groundbreaking informatics projects as part of the Clinical Research Data Warehouse team. You will work under the direct supervision of CRI’s Faculty Director Samuel Volchenboum, MD, PhD, (Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics) and Anoop Mayampurath, PhD (Research Assistant Professor, Pediatrics and Senior Statistician, CRI).

Responsibilities:

  • Processing and mining of large-scale clinical data (data-cleanup, summarizing, visualizing, etc.).
  • Integration of heterogeneous data sets.
  • Implementing statistical models for testing out hypotheses, inference.
  • Utilizing machine learning principles for prediction of clinical outcomes.
  • Writing scientific reports summarizing studies and presentation of research.
  • A strong programming background is a requirement, along with knowledge of data analytics. The candidate will possess excellent problem-solving and communicative skills with the ability to work in multi-disciplinary team.

Job Competencies:

Technical and professional requirements:

  • Significant programming experience in Python, or R.
  • Strong modern algorithm fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of principles behind predictive analytics.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Experience (one year) modeling healthcare data (clinical, electronic or administrative).
  • Familiarity with code versioning systems.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Familiarity with database design, data models, or ontologies.

Additional Requirements

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Informatics, Computer Science or Statistics required.
  • Graduate degrees in related disciplines and experience in analyzing large-scale data sets preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years experience analyzing data using statistical software packages required.
