Java Developer

POSITION SUMMARY

The Java Developer will be responsible for evaluating, designing, implementing and maintaining features for a high quality, high performing and scalable digital book lending service using the latest technology, tools and infrastructure hosting solutions. The developer will work in a collaborative team environment working closely with other teams to deliver cloud based solutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

• Work with senior developers and architects to translate requirements into robust software services and solutions
• Design and implement reusable components, frameworks and services
• Ability to analyze and clearly communicate approaches to troubleshooting and solving problems.
• Work closely with Business Analysts, Project Managers and Sr. Developers/Architects to breakdown tasks and provide estimates in an Agile software development lifecycle.
• Work closely with 1st and 2nd level support organizations to identify, analyze and resolve reported issues

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a combination of related education and experience
• 2-5 years of Enterprise Java Development
• Knowledge of SOA and REST
• Experience building software solutions using a Java technology stack
• Familiarity with Private, Public and Hybrid Cloud Architectures (AWS or Azure experience a plus).
• Experience working in an agile environment and familiarity with TDD and Continuous Integration
• Experience writing, tuning and debugging batch and/or database applications, including demonstrated proficiency in designing database schemas and queries
• Some front-end development experience a plus

Computer/Technical Skills:

• Java EE 6 or 7 compliant application server (e.g. JBoss, Glassfish, etc…)

Language Ability:

Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
