A Day in the Life of a Java Developer:

This position is the Java Developer for Meridian Health Plan’s application development organization. High level responsibilities include interpreting the functional requirements/ design documents and designing, developing and implementing applications following our Agile software development process. The position requires a minimum of 4-5 years of industry experience in writing solutions using enterprise Java technology skills and experience in web-based application development. Experience with MVC Architecture along with working knowledge of Unix/Linux/Windows is essential.

Responsibilities:

• Analyzes the functional requirements and design documents (including object models) and translates them into software modules
  
• Follows defined standards for Java/J2EE development in delivering the required software
  
• Adheres to defined UI standards in designing and developing user interface modules
  
• Follows industry standards, patterns and best practices for J2EE development techniques in implementing business rules
  
• Participates in daily and weekly status meetings with the team lead and delivery lead
  
• Keeps in touch with the latest Java/J2EE technology and continues to develop his/her technical skills
  
• Responsible for unit testing his/her software modules
  
• Familiar with industry standard IDEs and best practices in source code control and management for Java/J2EE projects
  
• Proficient in the use of multiple data access techniques including optimal SQL queries to inquire, insert or update data against standard relational database management systems like SQL Server and Oracle
  
• Writes reusable code segments in an Object Oriented fashion
  

Qualifications:
What you can bring to Meridian:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or Information Technology with at least 4 years of related technical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Working knowledge of such platforms as Windows, UNIX, and Linux
• Understanding of relational database concepts and ER diagrams
• Strong conceptual thinking
• Understanding of different phases of software development life cycle
• Good communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
• Requires strong skills in Java, Java EE, JSP, Tomcat, Servlets, Spring, SOA, Web Services (SOAP, WSDL, JAX/RPC, JAX-WS, JAX-RS), ANT, DHTML, HTML, JavaScript, JDBC, JMS, EJBs, XML and SQL
