Market Data Server (MDS) is a key repository of market data in use across the global firm. It is part of GM Solutions and is in the process to implement strategic projects that will improve stability and performance.

Departmental Overview

The Market Data Server (MDS) is a 3-tier Client / Server system that allows the saving, retrieval and manipulation of items of market data. The range of market data handled by this system will continually increase, and at present include: Fixing Rate Series, Bond Future Prices, FX Rate Series, Yield Curves, Volatilities and much more.

The team has presence across the globe (including New York, London, Raleigh, Singapore, Wroclaw) and provides 24×6 coverage on development, support and QA functions.

Main duties/responsibilities of the role:

Strong Java developer who will be able to design and develop applications for loading market data into database systems and for middleware components that make data available to the internal users.

In addition, you are able to make necessary enhancements and fixes to existing application, provide second-level support to the above components and participate in design, development and code review discussions within the group.

Special Circumstances (eg shifts, travel overseas, hours):

Staff may occasionally need to be on calls with other locations in other time zones (Singapore, London, Pune) and some weekend work on production releases, but no actual shift work.

You Offer

Education and professional qualifications:

Essential

• You have a Bachelors Degree
  

Desirable

• IT / Science / Maths/ Engineering based degree

Work experience/background:

Essential

• You have a minimum of 7 years IT experience

Desirable

• You have Financial markets knowledge, especially Listed Derivatives / Futures, Foreign Exchange, Swaps, stock Options and Bonds

Technical/business skills & knowledge:

Essential

• You have minimum 7 years experience of Java development
  
• You have a hands on experience on “Core Java” development
  
• You have experience with multi-threading, design patterns
  
• You have experience working on a high-performance, high-throughput application
  
• You have SQL knowledge (Sybase/Oracle) programming
  
• Perl/Shell scripting
  
• You understand Unix OS fundamentals

Desirable

• Experience with Swing development
  
• Experience in using a pub/sub oriented message layer
  
• Experience with post-trade systems for back office flows
  
• Experience on Electronic Trading systems
  
• Development experience on C++ or C#

Other requirements

Essential

• You have an excellent communication skills
  
• You should be able to work independently and as part of a wider team
