Riis Settlement seeks a part-time IT TECHNICIAN to provide general support to our Network Administrator. Duties will include monitoring lab activities, providing phone and walk-in support to users, teaching basic computer software to participants and maintaining equipment and supplies. Successful candidates will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrate- customer service skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to function responsibly with minimum direct supervision. The days and hours of work will vary; candidates must have the ability to work between 15 to 20 hours per week. The person will need to be more mobile to cover seven other Stand Alone sites.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, organizes, and monitors use of public computers.
  • Works under the supervision of the Network Administrator.
  • Responsible for assisting patrons with basic use of lab’s public computers and ensuring computer users comply with policies and guidelines relating to use of the computers and the Internet.
  • Responsible for monitoring computer reservations and time limits for patron and class/group use.
  • Uses basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office to carry out job duties.
  • Uses excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
  • Ability to teach basic computer software to program participants of all ages.
  • Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

Requirements:
Statement of Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Must have knowledge of computers such as basic hardware troubleshooting, Windows 7, Windows10, Knowledge of Mac Computer and Microsoft Office are strongly preferred.

  • Ability to learn and sufficiently operate the lab’s computers in order to assist patrons with the online catalog, electronic databases, the Internet, and other computer applications.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public on all age levels, abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and others.
  • Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.
  • Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
