IT – Systems Engineer I

OVERALL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under direct guidance from the Network Services Manager this position is a member of a systems support team responsible for implementing, supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting the enterprise systems infrastructure.

JOB FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL:

Operations

Ø Proactively identifies performance and operational issues using trending activities and reports.

Ø Participates in creating and maintaining system and storage documentation.

Ø Implements system configuration changes and validates outcomes

Ø Identifying and responding to Information System security breaches.

Ø Participates in recovery from an Information Systems disaster or major outage.

Ø Configuring, implementing, maintaining, and supporting management tools.

Ø Documenting and reporting on all IT outages and performance issues.

Troubleshooting and problem resolution

Ø Performs problem identification, isolation, resolution, and solution documentation.

Ø Escalates problem resolution to appropriate staff as necessary.

Ø Development of problem incident response procedures.

Ø Works to resolve all issues in a timely manner.

Change management

Ø Participates in the IT change control process.

Ø Initiates change requests and reviews with appropriate IT staff and Manager ahead of the change.

Ø Reviews and communicates post change status and results with appropriate stakeholders.

Ø Assures systems documentation is current, creates as needed and updates to reflect changes.

Strategic Planning and Design

Ø Participates in evaluation, selection and integration of server and storage technologies.

Ø Designing and integrating new systems and infrastructure components.

Ø Creating and maintaining short and long-term systems architecture plans and strategies.

Ø Development of disaster recovery strategy and documentation.

General

Ø Promotes positive interpersonal relationships with fellow employees, physicians and patients.

Ø Ensures confidentiality of patient information.

Ø Has regular and predictable attendance.

Ø Participates and responds in on-call rotation defined by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Ø BS/BA preferred or comparable experience.

Ø 1-2 years implementing, supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting secure local and wide area information system networks.

Ø Enterprise Operating Systems; Storage Area Networks; Backup and Recovery Systems; Virtual Environments; Terminal Services, Directory and Certificate Services.

Ø Understanding of a variety of monitoring tools.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

Certifications/diplomas: CompTIA (Server+, Storage+) or equivalent experience

Preferred: VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ø Ability to assist in:

· Planning and implementing; server, storage, client, and security technologies and projects.

· Utilizing systems monitoring tools to log, analyze and resolve pervasive issues.

· Configure and troubleshoot Enterprise systems and technologies.

Ø Basic understanding of:

· Enterprise operating systems: Performance, Patching, Audit and Analysis

· Active Directory, Group Policy and related services.

· Systems Management and Monitoring tools.

· UNIX/AIX administration.

· Backup and Recovery Systems.

· Virtual Server Environments (VMware and Hyper-V).

· Storage Area Networks, including connectivity options (iSCSI, CIFS, NFS and FC).

· Citrix and Terminal Server environments.

· Clustering and Load Balancing.

Ø Ability to be professional, calm and collected, even in the face of serious adversity.

Ø Good problem troubleshooting skills.

Ø Good interpersonal, customer service, communication and presentation skills.

Ø Ability to develop and maintain good vendor and business partner relationships.
