      The Position

      This position will be expected to design and create code responsible for supporting and enhancing both existing and new applications at Kemin Industries. Also when needed creating reports to meet end users’ requirements, maintain and modify existing reports, set up user access to systems and reports. This position will also perform troubleshooting activities as well documentation, user training, custom reporting, and support for LIMS users.

      Responsibilities:
      The IT System Developer 2 will be responsible for implementation, validation, and maintenance of the company’s commercial Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). The candidate will be expected to work closely with the Company’s scientific and LIMS Development teams to effectively translate the laboratory’s physical workflows into a comprehensive LIMS system.

      The IT System Developer 2 will also be expected to work with LIMS and ELN Systems such as Starlims and ELN and be able to maintain and modify existing LIMS code, design and create LIMS functionality, set up and support LIMS and ELN users and troubleshoot LIMS and ELN issues.

      Job responsibilities include:

      • Build and maintain development code for STARLIMS, HP-TRIM, and Electronic Lab Notebook systems.
      • Develop, maintain, and enhance LIMS and laboratory IT solutions utilizing established or newly selected technologies.
      • The LIMS Programmer Analyst ensures the efficient operation of the Company’s clinical laboratory through the development and customization of LIMS modules and reports to support the laboratory’s workflow and reporting requirements.
      • Works closely with LIMS project stakeholders and vendors on requirements specifications and implementation of customizations in support of Phase 1 and subsequent phase launches at each of the Company’s global clinical laboratories, as appropriate.
      • Prepares custom reports and dashboards for various user levels such as executive management, lab management, and lab scientists using Crystal Reports.
      • Develops and maintains user training program for LIMS system.
      • Cooperates and respectfully communicates with external and internal customers.
      • Ability to train employees on use of the LIMS system.
      • Ability to understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as written and verbal instructions.
      • Prior experience with an issue tracking system (Footprints, Redmine, Bugzilla, etc.).
      • Learn and administer the HP-TRIM document and management system.
      • Ensure availability of applications as per agreed Service Level Expectations or requirements by monitoring applications, related jobs and resolving issues.
      • Provide a timely and effective response to user queries by analyzing, investigating and fixing them as required.
      • Perform ‘root cause’ analysis of user issues, provide immediate workaround for critical problems.
      • Actively own and maintain support documentation.
      • Develop strong relationship with the development and infrastructure support teams to resolve production issues in a timely manner.
      • Good general awareness of Information Security policies and Technology Risk Management.
      • Plan for and perform upgrades of Starlims and ELN software.
      • Other duties, as assigned.

      Qualifications:

      • College degree in a technical field, or equivalent, with a minimum of 7 years of work experience.
      • 3 years’ experience with JAVA programming preferred.
      • Additionally, a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in software development environments using object-oriented programming languages and current technologies such as HTML5 and .NET framework.
      • Experience with HTML5, VB.Net, Jscript.Net programming a plus.
      • Experience with HP-TRIM document and management system a plus.
      • Experience with a LIMS or inventory management system is preferred.
      • At least Seven (7) years’ experience with use, configuration, and customization of a LIMS System is required. Experience with STARLIMS is preferred; or knowledge and experience with an equivalent system in a clinical laboratory environment.
      • Familiarity and experience with writing and executing software validations in a regulated environment, with a particular emphasis on design control and computer systems validation, is desired. The well-qualified candidate will be familiar with the functions of a clinical laboratory and have experience in laboratory workflow automation and software validation.
      • Effective written and oral communication skills.
      • Ability to follow Disaster Recovery Processes.
      • S. based position, but candidate must be willing to travel on a limited basis upon request.

      SKILLS REQUIRED:

      Software development experience, preferably in HTML5, VB.Net, Jscript.Net, Java, C’. Experience with data reporting (e.g. Crystal Reports, Business Objects, Oracle Interactive Reporting). Strong demonstrated proficiency and interest in LIMS or scientific IT/research informatics. Minimum 7 years of experience in analysis and documentation of business requirements and processes at high and detailed levels.

      Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent team player. Willingness to learn new technologies, tools and business processes.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 7 years programing experience with any of the following: Starlims, Electronic Lab Notebook, Domain Experience with lab automation and instrument interfaces.

      Level and compensation commensurate with experience.

      Working Conditions: The position is based at Kemin Industries in Des Moines, Iowa. The exempt-level position is considered to be 40 hours per week, but requires flexibility.
