IT Specialist / Network Engineer

The IT Specialist is responsible for working through project plans, independently or with team members, to develop standard processes and designs, and to implement and support customer networks. The Network Engineer will assess current client infrastructure, determine appropriate upgrades or modifications, and prepare new equipment and software for implementation. The Technician is also responsible for communicating and working directly with clients and vendors. The Network Engineer will travel to client sites for project implementations; overnight travel is often required. Travel requirements for this position are anticipated to be 2 – 10 days per month, frequently including weekends. During and after project completion, the Network Specialist documents changes made to the client environment and then briefs the Sustaining Services Team on changes to the production environment.

The IT Specialist will also provide escalated remediation support for networking related Sustaining Service issues.

Qualifications

Knowledge:

Network Engineer should have a solid understanding of networking troubleshooting, network fundamentals (TCP/IP, Routing, Switching, etc.), wireless technologies, Microsoft Windows Servers, scripting, and basic Linux knowledge. Specifically, they should have a strong working knowledge of Cisco firewalls, routers, & switches. The Network Engineer should also have an aptitude for standardization, automation, and strict attention to detail.

Preferred Skills:

Cisco Certifications, Network Design, Network Administration, Network Troubleshooting, Network Monitoring, Project Management, Project Development.

Education:

Minimum 2-year associate degree with a focus in Information Technology Fundamentals. Cisco or other Network Certifications, and/or extensive practical experience and abilities may be considered as equivalent.

Experience:

The Network Engineer should have a minimum of:

– 1 year of experience as an IT staff member or support representative.- 1year(s) of

– 1year(s) of full-time Network Design and Administration.
