The Department of Corrections (DOC); Division of Management Services (DMS); Bureau of Technology Management(BTM), is currently looking to fill an IS Systems Development Services Specialist vacancy at our central office located at 3099 E. Washington Ave, Madison, WI (Dane County).

Position Summary: This position will lead the analysis, design, and development of Java web applications for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and will work with department personnel of all levels to identify system requirements, plan, design, and develop complex Java computer applications and data integration between systems. This position will work in varied technical environments including web-based technologies, Oracle, SQL server, client-server, on-line and/or batch processing. This position will maintain and support existing Java applications, work independently to solve problems with production systems, and provide situational leadership to other BTM team members as appropriate.

Special Notes: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.

Qualifications: Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Collecting and analyzing business/user requirements, drawing conclusions, and recommending solutions for application developments/enhancements.
  • Programing front-end application components using JSP, Javascript, AJAX, jQuery, JSON, XML, CSS and back-end components using Java 1.6+ on Spring MVC and Hibernate frameworks
  • Developing application prototypes.
