Investment Banking Associate-M&A

BMO Capital Markets is seeking a qualified Associate to join the M&A advisory team located in the Chicago office.
The M&A Associate is responsible for efficiently supporting and assisting clients and internal deal teams with a variety of investment banking services, activities, and transactions. The M&A Associate is critical in assisting with the leadership of live engagements as well as supporting new business development, with key responsibilities including:
  • Executing public or private domestic / cross-border M&A transactions on both the buy-side and sell-side
  • Participating in internal and client meetings throughout the deal process as necessary
  • Coordinating transaction execution and performing business due diligence, including client visits, analysis of business models, and comprehensive review of industry trends and related regulations
  • Leading preparation of all M&A marketing materials (including pitches, confidential presentations, management presentations, process updates, bid summaries, etc.) and other client presentations as needed
  • Assisting in the formulation of buyer/investor lists for sell-side M&A mandates
  • Overseeing the construction and maintenance of detailed financial models to form company valuations and analyze historical and projected financial information to support due diligence throughout the M&A process
  • Developing strategic alternatives analyses and presentations for buy-side M&A mandates
  • Assisting in the development of strategic advice and defense tactics for clients involved in or preparing for shareholder activism campaigns
  • Building relationships and maintaining direct contact with current and prospective clients
  • Managing, supervising, and coaching junior banking team members

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • One to two years of Associate-level investment banking experience
  • Proven ability to manage transaction processes
  • An undergraduate degree with academic coursework in finance, economics, or accounting and an outstanding academic achievement
  • Extensive knowledge of capital markets, investment banking, and M&A advisory services and applicable regulations
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Expertise in financial computer applications and database management tools including MS Excel and other Microsoft Office products
  • Exceptional skills in quantitative analytics and financial modeling
  • Strong interpersonal skills used within a demanding team environment and in client interaction
  • Ability to work under limited supervision
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly, solve complex problems, and think creatively to drive optimal client outcomes
  • Ability to review, assess, and provide detailed information daily
  • Excellent capability to independently and proactively service multiple clients
  • Series 79 & 63 licenses
