Investment Associate

Investment Associate in Investment Office

The Investment Associate will support senior staff in the Brown University Investment Office in managing $3.4 billion of assets, including the University’s endowment. The Investment Office and position are located in Providence, RI. The Associate is expected to have a desire to commit at least three years to the position.
The Associate will participate in both allocating capital to external investment managers and making direct investments in both public and private securities. The candidate will have experience in both of these disciplines or the intellect to thrive at both. This position provides exposure to traditional and alternative asset classes including global equities, hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, real estate, natural resources, and fixed income.
Allocating to External Investment Managers and Monitoring:
The Associate will assist with thematic research, manager screening and due diligence for prospective external investment managers and the ongoing review and assessment of Brown’s existing managers. The Associate will meet with leading asset management firms and will help evaluate their teams, strategies, performance and operations.
Direct Investments:
The Associate will also assist in analyzing and monitoring direct investments. This will include market research, building and maintaining financial models and comparable company analyses, listening to earnings calls, speaking with portfolio company management, contacting suppliers and competitors of portfolio companies, writing research notes and completing other fundamental research analysis.
In addition to the responsibilities above, the Associate will play a key role in the development of materials for the University’s Investment Committee and other high-level audiences.
The candidate will have:
Strong academic background with BA/BS from highly competitive college or university
Top decile performer with 1-3 years of experience as an Analyst at a hedge fund, institutional manager, private equity firm or investment bank
Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills
Advanced knowledge of finance and accounting
Proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Team player and ability to work independently
