The State of New Hampshire, Department of Employment Security, has a full time vacancy for Interviewer Trainee / Interviewer I.

SUMMARY: Conducts interviews with claimants, employers, and interested parties to insure prompt and correct payment and charging of unemployment compensation benefits. Acts as a liaison between the Wages and Special Programs Unit and the public and other departmental units.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs all functions relative to filing and processing Combined Wage Claim Options.

2. Performs all functions relative to ensuring unemployment compensation benefits are charged to the proper employer account.

3. Gathers information from claimants, employers, and agency records to render overpayment decisions.

4. In times of high workload, assists the Wages and Special Programs Field Agency in writing and issuing monetary determinations in order to authorize or deny the use of monies for annual earnings.

5. Monitors Wages and Special Programs wage assignment programs to assist in prompt and accurate payment of benefits.

6. Acts as liaison between the Wages and Special programs Unit and the public and other departmental units to resolve wage or charging problems on individual claims.

7. Communicates with claimants, employers, other interested parties and the public by phone, in writing, or by e-mail to respond to inquiries for general information or to resolve specific problems.

8. Operates a desktop computer and electronic database base in order to input, filter, and retrieve claims data to provide timely service to claimants, employers and other states.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – INTERVIEWER I:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Six months to one year of experience as an Interviewer Trainee; meeting criteria as outlined in the Interviewer Trainee State Class Specification, or one year in an investigative field associated with an insurance claims office, law office, job placement specialist or related field work. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – INTERVIEWER TRAINEE:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university.

Experience: No experience required. Each year of approved work experience, as defined in this section, may be substituted for one year of required formal education. Applicants who are substituting experience for the Bachelor’s degree may use positions such as Clerk Interviewer, Case Technician, Case Aide, Tax Forms Examiner, Executive Secretary or other responsibilities at the level of the positions mentioned. For positions outside of state government, acceptable experience will be in jobs such as Personnel Assistant, Claims Examiner or Auditor, Bank Teller, Administrative Assistant, Teacher Assistant, Store Manager or in a related type position at the same or higher responsibility level.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Possession of a valid New Hampshire driver’s license and/or have access to transportation for statewide travel.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1) The probationary period for Interviewer Trainee will continue until the incumbent meets the following criteria:

(a) Certification by Manager after at least six months of employment that employee meets expectation of job accountabilities and/or has received cross training, OR

(b) Possession of the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree and one year of related work experience.

Upon successful completion of above criteria, the Interviewer Trainee may be eligible for promotion to Interviewer I, LG 16.
