International Trade Specialist

Responsibilities:
Conducts consultations with Idaho companies to assess international market opportunities, develop export market entry strategies and utilize export financing options and navigate import-export regulations and related documentation

Recruits and coordinates participation of Idaho companies in international promotions such as: trade shows, trade missions and inbound buying delegations

Assists international buyers by providing matchmaking services with Idaho suppliers

Supports project coordination with Idaho’s international trade offices; organizes market promotion events such as catalog shows, trade shows, and trade missions

Facilitates communication and international consular officials, government agencies, trade associations, chambers of commerce, and civic and business groups to promote the expansion of trade and investment in Idaho

Develops programs and recruits Idaho companies and speakers to participate in educational seminars that address relevant international business topics

Assists in the prequalification and distribution of international investment leads

Assists in grant management and related documentation

Domestic and international travel may be required

Desired Knowledge and Skills:
Familiarity of standard international trade and investment practices with emphasis on sales, marketing, project management and communications

Willingness to learn and work across a broad range of exportable industry sectors

Ability to build strong relationships of trust with public and private sector partners both nationally and internationally

Ability to communicate effectively in a cross-cultural, business setting with emphasis on Spanish or Mandarin Chinese language and culture skills

Desired Experience:
Consulting with small and medium-sized businesses to help develop and implement international sales or marketing strategies

Working in international markets, developing sales and partnership contacts and following up on business matchmaking opportunities

Creating, organizing and conducting promotional events, such as trade and investment shows and missions

Utilizing sources of secondary market research, preparing written reports and multi-media presentations for a cross-cultural business audience

Developing sales or distribution channels in Asian or Latin American markets

Creating sales campaigns around targeted industry clusters

Working with or managing state or federal grant programs

Minimum Requirements:
Good knowledge of international business theory practice and/or marketing theory

Good knowledge of systems and methods

Experience planning, organizing and implementing an international marketing program

Experience creating, organizing and conducting seminars and promotional events, such as trade shows and trade missions

Experience working in international markets, making contacts, sales calls and developing business

Experience developing and preparing written reports and making oral presentations
