Internal Auditor/Compliance Specialist

The Internal Audit Department of United Credit Union is responsible for performing credit union audits. The audits are designed to review the Credit Union’s operations to assess risks, the effectiveness of internal controls and evidence of deficiencies in employee non-compliance with established policies. By planning and performing various financial, compliance and operational audits, the Internal Auditor, using independent judgment and professional expertise, will evaluate internal controls and ensure compliance with policies and procedures and the identification and mitigation of risks. Assist in monitoring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Responsible for overseeing the Credit Union’s Regulatory Compliance Programs. This position ensures that the credit union complies with the rules and regulations of regulatory agencies and that Credit Union policies and procedures are being followed.

KEY REPSONSIBILITES

  • Prepare audit work papers to document relevant information obtained, analyzed and evaluated that support audit observations and conclusions.
  • Performs or assists in performing Branch audits as necessary.
  • Review established systems to ensure compliance with procedures, policies, laws, and regulations which govern the credit union. Suggest policy changes as appropriate.
  • Assist in the coordination and support for on-site examinations and independent audits.
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of laws, regulations, general accounting principles and regulatory guidance relative to Internal Audit and Compliance for the operations of the Credit Union.
  • The ability to work objectively with the highest level of integrity to ensure independence and maintain confidentiality relative to any information received, directly or indirectly.
  • Work independently and as a team member, using discretion in decision-making and sound judgment in problem solving.
  • Organizing, directing and performing financial, operational and regulatory internal audit duties of varying complexities requiring extensive professional knowledge and experience in auditing principles and practices.
  • Performs such other duties and functions as might be required for the efficient and effective operation of the Credit Union, or as might be assigned from time to time by the President and/or Supervisory Committee.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration from an accredited college/university is required, or commensurate work experience.
  • Total of two to five years of previous internal audit and compliance experience in the financial services industry with at least two years in a credit union or bank preferred.
  • Familiarity with the regulations which govern financial institutions, preferably credit unions is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, writing skills, attention to detail and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Solid understanding of the internal audit and compliance processes and principles.
  • Possess ability to effectively identify, analyze and solve problems.
  • Traveling to the Branches is required.
