Intern – Systems Engineering

Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks an Intern – Systems Engineering for summer 2017. The position will be located in West Palm Beach, FL.

Performs Systems Engineering assignments with a focus on Model-Based Systems Engineering and Digital Thread. The position requires application of basic principles, theories, and concepts of Systems Engineering for aerospace system development.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
50% – Utilizing results, translate findings into business-relevant application for rocket propulsion systems development. Work with cross-disciplinary team to expand Model-Based Systems Engineering capability and extend Digital Thread reach. For assigned topic, develop innovative demonstration of methodology to aid transformation of traditional rocket propulsion systems development. Learn assigned tools. Document potential affordability enhancements. Coordinate proposed process changes with relevant stakeholders. Provide internal training on new methodologies developed.

25% – Conduct review of existing literature for assigned topic related to Model-Based Systems Engineering and Digital Thread implementation. Survey related cutting-edge research, industry best practices, and implementation guidance.

25% – Communicate results in oral presentations and written communication. Manage project and prepare reports on status, escalating issues as encountered.

Requirements:
Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering or other appropriate science/discipline. Must have completed junior year of study at a minimum. Strong academic track record of success expected. Systems Engineering coursework or experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering, SysML, and multi-disciplinary optimization preferred. Rocket Propulsion coursework strongly desired.

Demonstrated team work experience. Solid communication skills, both verbal and written, required.

To be considered an intern, you must be continuing with your education in the fall 2017.

U.S Citizenship, Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person required. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information. Having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
