Intern – Engineering Projects R&D Undergrad Year Round

What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an Intern Year Round – R&D Undergrad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Support power source development activities
  • Support qualification activities including: structural design and analysis
  • Support of thermal and mechanical environment testing
  • Analyze and document test results
  • Assist in resolution of technical problems
  • Ensure that work is conducted in a safe and secure manner with respect to all of Sandia National Laboratories and Center 2500 guidelines

Qualifications We Require

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.15/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • U.S. citizenship

Additional Requirments:

  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance

Qualifications We Desire

  • The successful candidate should have undergraduate status (BS) in a mechanical or aerospace engineering or related engineering curriculum
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment with various disciplines of engineers and scientists
  • Experience with CAD modeling software
  • Experience with environmental testing methods
  • Experience with finite element analysis (structural and dynamic) and solid modeling software

Security Clearance

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted L-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
