Insurance Account Representative

This position is responsible for a variety of accounting duties related to medical billing functions. The assigned duties include analysis and proper application of payments. The incumbent may review accounts to aid in refunds or account reconciliation. Responsibilities

1. Reconciliation of electronic payment and statements from Electronic Data Interchange ( EDI ) insurance companies.

2. Utilizes various documents, reports and computer systems to research account credit balances or to correct posting errors for accuracy within established deadlines. (This may include initiating a refund request to the appropriate party.)

3. Researches and obtains necessary documentation from insurance companies to complete manual payment posting process of paper checks and denials.

4. Follow-up (phone, e-mail, regular mail) with insurance companies, third party administrators or bank regarding claim/payment status through our practice management system and reporting tools for account reconciliation accuracy within established deadlines.

5. Organizes and prioritizes work to make sure projects are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

6. Acts as a resource for sharing knowledge and information within the organization.

7. Communicate to supervisor trends and potential process improvements.

8. Overtime may be required

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of accounting or medical insurance claim experience; a basic understanding of debits and credits, word processing, spreadsheet, and ten-key by touch skills, strong analytical skills, and effective verbal and written communication and human relation skills required. Familiarity with commercial or government billing requirements and knowledge of insurance, coding, and medical terminology is preferred.

Preferences

1. Knowledge of medical industry, insurance billing, explanation of benefits, CPT codes and medical terminology.

2. Treasury and banking experience with electronic payments and credit card processing.

3. Customer Service experience.

4. Strong analytical, problem solving, and mathematical abilities

5. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office required.

6. The ability to be resourceful to gather information to resolve accounts.

7. The qualified individual should have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn new duties and work together with our existing staff as a productive member of our team.
