INNOVATION PART-TIME – FALL 2018 INTERN

Delta Air Lines is continually looking to embrace new technologies and enhance the customer experience, and with that in mind we are looking for current students who are interested in working with a leading innovation team in the airline industry. You will need to embrace challenges, devour knowledge, and love working on meaningful problems. Innovation isn’t just a concept; it’s about continually improving the customer experience from pre-booking a flight all the way through to a customer’s final destination. The interns will receive flight benefits during the assignment.

RESPONSIBILITIES: (1) Collaborate with internal and external partners to explore and transform ideas into workable solutions that provide a deeper understanding of Delta’s business challenges; (2) Build and support relationships with stakeholders and use customer feedback to propose innovative solutions to continually improve services and put the “Customer First”; (3) Identify and explain customer and employee pain points and needs through human centered research, utilizing methods such as observations, interviews, surveys, focus groups, etc.; (4) Contribute to the definition of new ideas and concepts through brainstorming and ideation efforts; identify an exhaustive list of possibilities; (5) Use technical and functional skills to develop minimum viable products (MVP’s) or low fidelity prototypes, as well as, assist in their delivery and implementation; (6) Apply innovation best practices and agile methods to ensure our various projects are successful; (7) Identify and recommend processes and best practices that influence enterprise-wide, human centered design thinking; (8) Benchmark airline, travel, and non-travel endemic innovation, technology, CX, and research best practices

Required qualifications: (1) Undergraduate or graduate student with experience and/or interest in business/design/technology and research related topics; (2) Demonstrated general understanding or interest in emerging technologies and trends in areas such as (but not limited to): Big Data & Analytics, Big Data, Virtual/Mixed/Augmented Reality technologies, Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence; Autonomous Machine technologies, IoT/Wearable technologies, Robotics; (3) Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively when appropriate; (4) Curiosity and willingness to explore topics beyond the surface (e.g., beyond desk research), (5) Good communication skills and creative thinking with excellent storytelling capabilities, providing appropriate business, design, customer and cultural context; (6) Flexibility and organizational skills to multi-task and re-prioritize multiple projects and stakeholder needs, (7) Attention to detail and ability to deliver within tight deadlines; (8) Ability to understand key features of a topic without having the benefit of exhaustive knowledge or detail; (9) Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations, with minimal direct guidance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At the Hangar, we classify interns under 4 primary categories. In addition to the required qualifications listed above, we are also interested in the following for each category:

Design Intern: A deep knowledge of wire-framing and experience with design software including the Adobe Creative Suite and ideally Sketch, Axure, and Justinmind

Strategy Intern: A deep understanding of management tools and frameworks, such as Business Model Canvas, Porter’s 5-Forces, etc

Research Intern: Experience in Quantitative/Qualitative research design and methodologies

Technology Intern: (1) Experience in developing full-stack software leveraging object-oriented programming methods including (but not limited to) Python, C++, JAVA, etc.; OR (2) Experience in hardware and IoT design/development and utilizing sensors, Raspberry Pi, Arduino boards, or similar.
