INFRASTRUCTURE ARCHITECT/AGILE COACH

Under direction of the Executive Director at Risk and Safety Solutions, Architect, integrate provide leadership to the highly complex lifecycle design, development and integration of critical information infrastructure projects for the University of California Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and EH&S initiatives. Provide overall direction, guidance and definition of the ERM/EH&S technical architecture to effectively support ERM/EH&S business strategies, goals and objectives. Provide input, recommendations and specifications to ensure all current and proposed architectures meet or exceed current standards and industry best practices. Represent Risk and Safety Solution on relevant technology organizations at UCOP and UC campuses. Review and ensure compliance with UCOP policy and standards. Provide technical oversight for all System Administrators and Database Admins.

Physical Demands:

Sit at a computer/workstation working with a keyboard/mouse to enter and retrieve data for extended periods of time.

Stare at display monitors for extended periods of time.

Position requires lifting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Reach and work with equipment mounted in computer racks and access equipment that may be located anywhere from the bottom (floor level) to the top of seven-foot high racks.

Work Environment:

Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions.

Work flexible schedule including occasional evenings, weekends and holidays to maintain systems, respond to service disruptions, emergency outages and meet department obligations.

Work in environment with temperature, noise, and airflow parameters required for data center operations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent education and experience, in computer science, engineering or associated field.

Experience in IT enterprise infrastructure architecture and design including datacenters, virtualization, enterprise storage, disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Experience designing and supporting secure computing networks and systems through risk assessment/needs analysis, business continuity planning, and effective policy and procedure development and implementation.

Advanced knowledge in multiple operating system technologies, including MS Windows, Linux, Juniper and OpenBSD.

Experience with IT governance and enterprise frameworks.

Strong server virtualization and cloud technology experience. Experience designing and implementing enterprise-class storage solutions. Thorough understanding of Web technologies, including CMS design and implementation, Plone, WordPress, Tomcat, Apache HTTPD, and IIS.

Experience with directory services, including DNS, NIS, LDAP and Active Directory. Experience designing and implementing SMTP systems, including Postfix, Send-mail and Exchange.

Experience in a leadership role with technical staff and functional users

Experience leading projects and working collaboratively with large and distributed technical and nontechnical staff to meet project and organizational goals.

Knowledgeable with change control, HIPAA and PHI best practices.

Detailed knowledge of the OSI communication model, TCP/IP and other network protocol internals to support complex LAN configurations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Oral, written and excellent interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.

Critical thinking skills to analyze complex data, identify problems and develop meaningful solutions.

Experience leading the adoption of world class processes, tools, and technology that further the goals of shareholders.

Solid understanding of project management and SDLC.

Experience with technology and communications in a university setting, academic policies and sensitivity to legal/security issues.

Experience working with or in research-based environments.
