Information Technology Specialist I, Grade 20

Montgomery County Recreation seeks a skilled IT professional to provide overall technical support of PC – software and hardware installation/configuration, network, printers, laptops, tablets, smart phones and other peripherals. The employee will be responsible for providing support in the department’s day-to-day activities related to information technology and to ensure the effective, efficient and secure operation of all technology operations.
Along with general expertise and capabilities in the implementation of IT programs, good analytic skills in the troubleshooting and resolution of IT-related incidents are required.

The IT Specialist I will serve as a member of Recreation’s IT team and be responsible for providing help desk support to merit and seasonal staff; maintaining IT inventory databases, providing support to the development of specification requirements for technology procurements and troubleshooting and resolving all end-user operational issues and acting as an escalation, if required.

Additional responsibilities include: allocation and maintenance of IT equipment in 39 Recreation facilities located throughout Montgomery County, provide assistance/ guidance to users on the department’s specific business SAAS and maintain user accounts in the departments OU in Active Directory.

Critical to the success of this position is the employee’s ability to work well both independently and with other team members as well as have effective oral and written communication and time management skills.
The schedule for this position may involve early morning, evening, and weekend hours. This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.
Lifting of PCs, printers and other small peripherals is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:
One (1) year professional experience in the information technology field in IT hardware and software support.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Physical Abilities:
Ability to lift boxes containing computer support items and equipment such as printers, computers, modems, and monitors weighing up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Criteria

1. Three (3) years of experience in hardware/software installation/configuration and network support.

2. One (1) year of experience troubleshooting and problem resolution, providing primary client level “help desk” support.

3. Experience authoring technical documentation in support of computer applications.

4. Experience in Active Directory administration.

5. Experience researching specification requirements and determining capability/compatibility with existing technology for IT procurement.

Based on the results of Preferred Criteria evaluation, applicants will be rated and placed on the Eligible List as either “Qualified” or “Well Qualified.” The highest rated applicants will be placed on the Eligible List and may be considered for interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are the same grade will be placed on Eligible List as a “Lateral Transfer” candidate and may be considered for interview. Note:
In the event there are 10 or fewer minimally qualified candidates, all will be placed on the Eligible List as Qualified and Hiring Managers will be required to interview a minimum of five candidates. For “seniority” jobs (as shown in Article 8), resumes will be reviewed and rated by subject matter experts based on the Preferred Criteria.
