Information Technology Internship – Summer 2017 – McLean, VA

USA TODAY, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK is in search of a talented college student looking for an enriching paid internship. As part of the USA TODAY team, you will develop, integrate and apply skill sets and experiences in support of our newsroom team.

The purpose of the internship experience is to provide opportunities where college (undergrad and grad) students can develop, grow and become the next generation of talent for USA TODAY. This program offers mentoring from those at the top of their game, networking and real-world experience in a fun, entrepreneurial atmosphere. As part of our team, you will work on meaningful and impactful projects, as well as enjoy peer-to-peer engagement while working on activities that promote professional development supplemental to the job. Web development interns will work alongside our team on the daily operations and enhancements to the Gannett websites, including USAToday.com. The internship will be hand-on learning experience demonstrating how video content is delivered on a website using the Agile development methodology.

Required Knowledge:

• HTML/CSS and JavaScript is required, and those technologies will make up the bulk of the tasks assigned to you.
• Wide range of technical interest, for example: * JavaScript, JavaScript, JavaScript – it’s critically important to our web framework * Interest Backbone or other similar libraries *
• Interest in Polymer projects * Candidates should know a little about SQL or NoSQL databases *
• Must enjoy technical troubleshooting and exploration EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES: * Computer Science, Math, or Computer Engineering or related studies * Background in either C, C++, Golang or Objective C or any other object-oriented languages desired. * GIT workflow experience is a plus * OSX experience is a plus * Unix shell experience is a plus.
