Job Description

The Network Analyst’s role is to design, build, and implement network systems across the enterprise. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all local and wide area network connections, enterprise VOIP, associated software, and communication links. This person will also troubleshoot network performance issues, as well as analyze network traffic for cyber threats and provide capacity planning solutions. This is a non-union, exempt position.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement policies for network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory, related documentation, and technical specifications information.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Plan and implement any improvement, modification, or replacement of network infrastructure components.
  • Plan and manage budgeting for network hardware and software procurement.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and associated training for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
  • Establish and implement connectivity and uptime service level agreements.

Operational Management

  • Monitor and analyze network performance across the organization’s LANs, WANs, and wireless deployments.
  • Ensure the stable operation and efficient performance of City networks
  • Monitor system capacity to determine its affect on performance and recommend enhancements to meet new or changing network demands.
  • Identify and remedy network performance bottlenecks and alerts from monitoring
  • Configure and troubleshoot IP phones and call manager issues, including integration with telephone carrier networks.
  • Install and configure all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and so on.
  • Inspect, maintain, and where necessary replace network cabling, voice/data jacks, and other network-related equipment.
  • Ensure network and IP connectivity of all workstations, application servers, and back-end office infrastructure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field; and 3-5 years of experience related to designing, deploying and maintaining an enterprise network consisting of, but not limited to Cisco routers, switches, firewalls and wireless infrastructure.
  • Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
  • Successful completion of a federal and state criminal history and fingerprint check

Certification (Preferred)

  • Certifications in CompTIA Security+, Network+
  • CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) in Routing / Switching and Security
  • CISSP – Certified Information Systems Security Professional

IDEAL CANDIDATE INFORMATION:

Knowledge & Experience

  • Extensive hands-on technical knowledge of network systems, protocols, and standards; Ethernet, Fiber Channel, BGP, EIGRP, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP, 802.11x, and so on.
  • Strong knowledge of network management and analysis tools, including Solarwinds Orion (NPM, SAM, IPAM, CatTools), Cisco FirePower
  • Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unity Connection, VOIP, IP Phones, Voicemail
  • Low voltage structured cabling concepts; punch block, cable termination, management
  • Extensive Cisco IOS operating system experience
  • Experience working in a switched and routed environment.
  • Hardware, software, and network connection troubleshooting experience.
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, including Next Generation Firewalls, Web Application Firewalls, Cisco Secure Access Control System (ACS), Cisco AnyConnect, SSL VPNs, Cisco Catalyst/Nexus switches, Barracuda WSG/ADC appliances
  • Skilled at installing/configuring firewalls, switches, routers, etc.
  • Knowledge of firewalls by editing and adding ACLs, intrusion detection systems, SIEM (Security Incident and Event Management) systems and other network security measures
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Extensive experience working with Subnets, VLANs, Network Address Translation (NAT)
  • Knowledge of Meraki switches and wireless access points
  • Knowledge of Point to Point hardware VPN tunnels and SSL / IPSEC VPNs
  • Knowledge of data center core network designs and MDF/IDF architectures
  • Experience with multiple operating systems from Microsoft, UNIX, Linux, AIX

Work Conditions

  • On-call availability for afterhours support calls related to network and telephones.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate power tools, computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
  • Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings.
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
