IMT Data Engineer

Client Technology (CT) – focuses on developing new technology services for our clients. It enables EY to identify new technology-based opportunities faster and pursue those opportunities more rapidly.
Enterprise Technology (ET) – ET supports our Core Business Services functions and will deliver fit-for-purpose technology infrastructure at the cheapest possible cost for quality services. ET will also support our internal technology needs by focusing on a better user experience.
Information Security (Info Sec) – Info Sec prevents, detects, responds and mitigates cyber-risk, protecting EY and client data, and our information management systems.
The opportunity
The Information Management Technology organization is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of solutions to support Ernst & Young’s global business intelligence, EDW and MDM platforms. The team is geographically dispersed and comprises of all disciplines required to deliver IT solutions for our customers, including project managers, business analysts, software engineers, quality assurance & testers and implementation managers. In addition to this the function works closely with the Enterprise & Solution Architecture and Infrastructure & Operations teams.

Your key responsibilities
The IMT Data Engineer is responsible for defining and managing the data structures required to support the enterprise through IMT with emphasis on the EDW program. This role must understand the corporate data associated with the business processes and should be able to determine how to best represent them, clearly identifying dimensions and associated facts. This person should master dimensional model and also be able to understand other BIG-Data strategy, in addition to traditional ER models from which EDW sources the data from most of the time. This person must also be capable of teaching these techniques to other members of the team as needed. The data architect must manage the balance of current and future needs in both design and content. He/she must also resolve semantic discrepancies in data definitions that arise among multiple sources and projects. This person will be working both with the Business / Data Analyst and the developers to manifest effectively the physical models.
Skills and attributes for success

  • Proven track record of successful delivery of dimensional data models from scratch to finish supporting Data Warehouses and complex business intelligence projects typically $1-$5m in value and 6-18 months in duration within a broader multi-year global business intelligence program.
  • Track record of dealing with challenging stakeholders, developers and architects during facilitated sessions and during the development lifecycle
  • Expert level understanding and experience with Kimball multidimensional modeling.
  • Strong team working skills across matrixed client, supplier and geographically dispersed virtual teams
  • To qualify for the role you must have

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with ERwin Data Modeler or a comparable data modeling tool
  • Expert level in Dimensional Data Modeling
  • Experience with enterprise data management technologies, including database platforms, ETL tools, BIG-Data and SQL
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (includes negotiation)
  • Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Understanding of two or more industry standard frameworks, including DAMA, DMBOK, or Zachman Framework
  • Understanding of information systems and data life-cycle management best practices and methodologies, formal systems engineering life cycle (SELC), and systems development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), web services, enterprise data management, information security, applications development, and cloud-based architectures with federal clients is desired
  • Work experience in a professional services industry, preferred
  • Work experience in a global role, preferred
