Job Summary

Primary focus will be to augment the existing MQ team in a contract to perm position. Duties include Operations, On-Call support, Application project support on MVS and iSeries MQ, and support of PLM activities.

IDEAL BACKGROUND: Ideal candidate will have strong IBM MQ on MVS and iSeries experience. Industry vertical would be on high volume transactional workloads such as insurance or banking.

3) Strong z/OS & iSeries Environment experience

What experience will set candidates apart from one another?

The above plus experience with Queue Sharing Groups on MVS, and/or IFS & LIB Experience on iSeries. Experience in large scale, high volume implementations of IBM MQ on MVS or iSeries.

What Project/Projects will the candidate be working on while on assignment?

Resources will be responsible for fulfillment of application project requirements and operations on Mainframe and iSeries MQ Platforms

Team member will participate with 3 other team members to meet organization and project objectives.

Responsibilities for this position:

  • Understand and support ongoing customer engineering requests from software engineering teams
  • Lead support and management of complex / high volume environments including IBM MQ Queue Sharing on Mainframe and iSeries MQ
  • Ensure MQ stability in support of many critical business applications
  • Investigating messaging issues and working with colleagues to solve at root cause
  • Support product lifecycle management
  • Drive sound technical decisions that promote platform stability, and ultimately result in long term customer satisfaction
  • Establish a repeatable process that takes into consideration systems, processes, strategy and people to ensure expected outcome of Projects and Tasks.
  • Organizing, presenting, and communicating benefits, problems, issues, or ideas to Team Leads and other members of the group
  • Drive integrations to Enterprise processes Managed Services where applicable (automation).
  • Primary focus is within the Production Operations function, but organizational savvy will be necessary to deal with enterprise challenges
  • Ability to lead and deliver multiple concurrent projects/Tasks on time and a focus on quality
  • Ability to present multiple solutions to Infrastructure and/or Application issues or improvements
  • Willingness and ability to share rotational on-call responsibilities

Software tools/skills are needed to perform these daily responsibilities:

MQ Series, BMC Mainview, NASTEL AutoPilot, MS Suite (Word, Excel, Project) and Visio, M071, TSO/ISPF, JCL

Skills/attributes must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related study and/or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years in an z/OS MQ Administrator Role (QSG is a Plus)
  • 5+ years in an iSeries MQ Administrator Role (IFS & LIB Experience is a Plus)
  • 5+ years in an MQ Support Role (Operations and Developer Support)
  • Strong z/OS & iSeries Environment experience
  • Understanding of Batch, CICS, DB2, IMS usage with MQ.
  • Strong Analysis and/or Application Analysis experience
  • Strong experience in Application Support and MQ Tools
  • MQ Monitor/Monitoring Experience
  • Must have a strong Visio background and the ability to Diagram MQ Infrastructure for various Application usage Flows
  • COBOL Language and/or Developer Experience for Application Support
  • Lead MQ Administrator some Initiatives (Projects/Tasks)
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Good Verbal and Written Skills

Skills/attributes are nice to have:

COBOL, Assembler, REXX, CICS, DB2, IMS
