Hydro Operator – Part-Time

The Hydroelectric Facility Operator is responsible for the daily operation of assigned hydroelectric power plant facilities. Rotating, on-call responsibilities will be part of this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily operation of power plant equipment including daily logs and reporting requirements during the operating season; which is February through July.
  • Perform plant inspections as needed to include daily, weekly, and/or monthly during the off-season; which is August through January.
  • Cleaning and removing small and large debris from intake
  • Act as site control in major and minor facility repairs.
  • Coordinate, schedule and participate with subcontractors and Maintenance to support and perform maintenance activities as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness of each assigned facility stays at or above EGPNA Standards.
  • Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), company and agencies’ procedures and regulations
  • Responsible to complete qualification program at all assigned facilities.
  • Work with ECRS to ensure complete understanding of all regulatory requirements at all assigned facilities.
  • Provide support for maintenance as required by Operations Supervisor and Maintenance Manager.
  • Proposes SAP PM functions as required to maintain operations (Create Notifications, edit Notifications)
  • Complete inventory checks as required by Company Policy

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 0-2 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated mechanical and/or electrical skills as applied to turbines, generators, large diesel engines, compressors, pumps, motors, valves and related equipment and systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of operation of power plant systems and equipment, principles of rotating equipment, and appropriate safety procedures
  • Above average computer skills (Windows, Word, Excel, SAP, Outlook)
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls
  • Ability to solve practical problems and provide applicable solutions.
  • Strong work ethic
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.

Hours are as follows

During the operating season :

February to July

Monday – Friday with rotating weekends 6 – 8 hours a day

During off season :

August to January

One day a week for weekly inspection. 2 hours

One day a month for monthly inspections. 4 hours
