Job Responsibilities

:

The Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is dedicated to creating, in partnership with others, innovative and genuine opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate fully and meaningfully in, and contribute to, their communities as valued members.

The Department of Developmental Services is searching for a motivated, dedicated individual to work at Wrentham Developmental Center Facility (WDC) as a Human Service Coordinator C (HSC C). This position functions as a HSC C Supervisor for the development of Individual Support Plans (ISP) for an assigned caseload, and monitors the implementation of the ISP in accordance with facility policies and federal/state regulations. The candidate selected for this position will clinically supervise 2-3 Human Service Coordinator A/B’s in the performance of these same responsibilities by monitoring the duties including direct observation of provided services and supports to individuals on the assigned caseload throughout the day and evening, in accordance with Active Treatment schedules.

The HSC C facilitates clinical team meetings and coordinates efforts to identify resident needs and develops plans to meet those needs. The selected candidate for this position will be responsible to write reports and clinical progress notes in the resident electronic record system related to the duties and responsibilities outlined above for the assigned caseload and also maintain and build a record system for the assigned caseloads. This position will oversee all service coordination activity for all residents in the assigned Unit. The HSC C mediates clinical differences and assists in resolving conflicts as they relate to service provision. This position reports directly to the Director of Quality Enhancement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Meets all minimum federal requirements (Title XIX) for

Q.I.D.P II

·

This includes a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a human service or educational field.

·

Competency in basic computer skills (word processing, data base management, and e-mail).

·

Previous supervisory experience in a clinical capacity is preferred.

·

Strong typing skills needed.

This position must meet all the minimum Federal requirements of (Title XIX) for Qualified Intellectual Disability Professionals (Q.I.D.P.) formerly (Q.M.R.P.)

One of the following is required for Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional assignments in the Department of Developmental Services only:

A criminal background check (CORI) will be completed on the recommended candidate as required by the regulations set forth by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services prior to the candidate being hired. In addition, Chapter 234 of the Acts of 2014, An Act Requiring National Background Checks, requires the Department of Developmental Services to conduct fingerprint-based check of the state and national criminal history databases on the recommended candidate. ALL EMPLOYEES ARE PAID ON A BI-WEEKLY BASIS AND MUST HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT.

Schedule Information:
Full-Time – 40 hour weekly position on 1st shift (Day position)

Working: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Days off: Saturday and Sunday

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: At least four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in human services work or social work. Based on assignment, at least one year of this work experience must have been in one of the following specialty areas. Refer to the individual position description for specialized work experience required.

  • Mental Health Case Manager and Forensic Transition Team Coordinator assignments only: The year of specialized professional experience must have included the clinical care and treatment of psychiatric or emotionally disturbed individuals.
  • Department of Developmental Services assignments only: The year of specialized professional experience must have involved working with individuals with intellectual or other developmental disabilities.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s or higher degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, education of the physically or emotionally handicapped, education of the multiple handicapped, education of the learning disabled, human services, rehabilitation, rehabilitation counseling, nursing, recreation therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, or physical education may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.
  • Mental Health Case Manager and Forensic Transition Team Coordinator assignments only: Degree substitutions must be in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, rehabilitation, rehabilitation counseling, human services, education of the physically or emotionally handicapped, education of the multiple handicapped, or education of the learning disabled.
  • Department of Developmental Services assignments only:
  • A current and valid Massachusetts license or registration as a physical therapist, speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, audiologist, registered nurse, dietitian, or social worker may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
  • A current and valid Massachusetts license or registration as a physical therapy assistant or occupational therapy assistant may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • One year of education equals 30 semester hours. Education toward a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
  • No substitutions will be permitted for the required year of specialized professional experience.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND LICENSES:

  • One of the following is required for Qualified Developmental Services Professional assignments in the Department of Developmental Services only:
  • A current and valid Massachusetts license or registration as a physical therapist, speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, audiologist, registered nurse, dietitian, or social worker, OR
  • A Bachelor’s or higher degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, education of the physically or emotionally handicapped, education of the multiple handicapped, education of the learning disabled, human services, rehabilitation, rehabilitation counseling, nursing, recreation therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, music therapy, or physical education.
  • Mental Health Case Manager and Forensic Transition Team Coordinator assignments only: A Bachelor’s or higher degree in social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling education, rehabilitation, rehabilitation counseling, human services, education of the physically or emotionally handicapped, education of the multiple handicapped, or education of the learning disabled is required.
  • Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or the equivalent from another state.
