Human Resources Manager

This position acts as an HR Business Partner with a focus on Talent Acquisition. The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding hiring managers and candidates through the hiring and onboarding process serving as the first line connection in integrating candidates to become successful Houston Astros team members. One who is also comfortable with numbers and drawing insights, from analytics, to make the hiring process smarter and more efficient. Additionally, this position will provide day-to-day high level, functional HR support to members of the Houston Astros organization. This position requires an extremely proactive person who is creative with interpersonal savvy; capable of effectively communicating with all levels within the organization while remaining sensitive to (and balancing) departmental and overall business needs.

Talent Acquisition

  • Responsible for full-time/full-cycle recruitment efforts; in addition to researching and implementing hiring methods and trends.
  • Partners with hiring managers to carry out hiring strategy and ensure hiring goals are met. Effectively matching candidates with the roles in which they will be most successful.
  • Develop an effective pipeline of key talent sourcing as succession planning needs dictate by establishing relationships with colleges, trade schools and other programs to develop the future workforce.
  • Facilitates and manages new hire orientation and continually improves the presentation and delivery of onboarding materials.
  • Creates a standard approach to talent acquisition through the use of scorecards and other tools to assure fair and consistent processes for hiring are followed. Ensure interview team preparedness during the interview process.
  • Maintain accurate and well-ordered documentation on all candidates, searches and other recruiting activities.
  • Files EEO-1 annually; maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.
  • Maintains recruiting metrics (time to fill open positions, cost per hire and other relevant data points).

Human Resources Business Partner

  • Collaborate with department leadership in being accountable for the implementation of HR-related processes, practices, policies and outcomes within assigned business unit(s).
  • Participates in development of department goals, objectives and systems.
  • Actively engages in the continuous improvement of human resource processes/procedures, and current HR programs by reviewing external market best practices/trends.
  • Understand applicable governmental and evaluation of HR metrics, while making recommendations to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Assists with the rollout of updated or new HR program and initiatives across the company.
  • Manage and resolve employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations. Explain company policies and programs through coaching and counseling.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This job primarily operates in a clerical, office setting. This role sometimes operates in a stadium setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit (for long periods of time); use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Travel

Some out-of-area and overnight travel will be required to support assigned business units.

Required Education and Experience

1. A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field and/or equivalent number of years of experience.

2. 4+ years of progressive human resources experience (particularly with a focus in talent acquisition).

3. An understanding of HR functions and best practices.

4. Bilingual English/Spanish

5. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

6. Proven ability to take initiative.

7. Ability to build effective relationships with staff at all levels of business and work well within a team-oriented and collaborative environment.

8. Prior experience working within tight, defined timelines.

9. Strong organizational skills with the ability to be flexible, adaptable and able to work under pressure handling multiple and competing demands.

10. Ability to take initiative; work independently; and follow through.

11. High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint).

Preferred Education and Experience

1. HR credential (SHRM-CP or PHR) preferred.

2. Experience with Ultipro platforms.
