HR Business Intelligence Data Analyst

Senior Analyst:

We are looking for someone to do just that in the context of Microsoft’s biggest asset – our people. A well-qualified candidate is a self-starter with abundant intellectual curiosity who excels at framing problems analytically, is comfortable working through ambiguity, and has a proven track record of helping leverage analytical insights to drive decisions and business outcomes. They are a skilled and experienced researcher, familiar with both theory and practice in the areas of employee turnover/attrition and leadership. They are an excellent collaborator and communicator, able to present insights in a concise and effective manner to a variety of audiences, including executive management.

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with very strong research and statistical analysis skills to expand their experiences, with clear opportunities for high visibility and high impact.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

Ownership of the Microsoft Global Exit Survey program, including content management, reporting and analysis, and vendor management

Support research and analysis efforts for leadership development

Analytical projects that will range from longer term deliverables to quick-and-dirty insights we can provide “just-in-time” to impact a decision.

Contract with customers, partners, and co-workers to define research questions, analysis plans, and deliverable timelines (with some support)

Work closely with data, from initial extraction through preliminary analysis to results validation

Translate findings into succinct, actionable business insights, often in coordination with partners who help you tell a holistic story

Communicate results effectively for impact, and provide follow-up insights in a timely manner

Beyond this analytical work, there will periodically be some minor responsibilities in support of other priority work within the broader HR Business Insights team

Qualifications should include the following:

Minimum 5 years of experience applying analytical methods to business problems, driving improved decision-making and outcomes

Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in industrial/organizational psychology, organizational behavior, social psychology, or related social science field.

Strong statistical analysis skills, including the ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in layman’s terms, and tell succinct, impactful stories to senior management without overwhelming them with data and details

Strong knowledge of statistical software (SPSS or R preferred)

Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills

Strong ability to translate business questions/needs into appropriate analytical problems, do high-quality analysis, and turn outputs into concrete, actionable business insights

Comfortable with ambiguous requests from management, and able to effectively turn them into detailed work plans and contracted deliverables that meet customers’ needs

Ability to work effectively under pressure with multiple deliverables, some larger with longer timelines and others requiring immediate attention and completion

A team player with strong collaboration and interpersonal skills working with co-workers and cross-functional partners to deliver comprehensive insights to customers

Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
