Health, Safety and Environmental Manager

Reporting:

The Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager (HSEM) reports directly to the Director of Health and Safety. They are responsible for Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance for Avmax Montana. The HSEM ensures compliance with all Federal, State, local and Avmax Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental standards and regulations. The HSEM acts on behalf of Avmax to Federal, State and local government agencies responsible for Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental standards. They are also responsible for coordinating compliance and responses with the Avmax SMS program.

Key Performance Indicators / Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Investigate Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental incidents/accidents.
  • Gather and document evidence in the support of an investigation.
  • Propose changes and corrective actions supporting Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental improvements.
  • Has the authority to stop any operation in which the Health and/or Safety of personnel located on Avmax property could be negatively affected.
  • Has the authority to stop any operation being performed that is a clear violation of Environmental standards and procedures.
  • Direct drug and alcohol testing as part of an accident investigation.
  • Developing and work with various departments to implement policies and procedures for Avmax in terms of Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental compliance.
  • Taking disciplinary measures concerning personnel they are responsible to supervise (including termination).
  • Designing, evaluating, and performing regulatory required indoctrination and recurrent Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental training for all company employees.
  • Identifying and coordinating with the Training Coordinator to schedule and perform required Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental training classes.
  • Identifying Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental risks and utilize hierarchy of controls to mitigate those risks.
  • Will complete the necessary regulatory reports for Federal, State and local agencies.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that Avmax meets the established departmental standards, provide and maintains the highest possible degree of safety for personnel, aircraft and equipment.
  • Working with the Quality Assurance Department as necessary to identify and implement corrective actions to audit findings.
  • Responsible for scheduling and taking the minutes of Safety Committee meetings.
  • Working with the HSE team and in consultation with corporate stake holders, develop program documents which ensure compliance with the applicable HSE legislation.
  • Represent Avmax to external HSE groups and regulators.
  • Provide consultation to all Management at the station.
  • Responsible for all day to day operations of the Safety Management System.

Qualifications:

  • Certification or Diploma in Health, Safety and Environment.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis and Incident Investigations.
  • Working knowledge of performing HSE audits and inspections.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Expert knowledge of HSE legislation and regulations as well as standard industry practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with other individuals throughout the organization.
  • Possess strong knowledge of CFRs.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
