Head of Hardware Engineering – Smart Home

The Role:

The Head of Hardware Engineering, Smart Home is one of the key members of the Engineering Management team of Smart Home Group.This person will lead and manage the team responsible for design and development of all aspects of the hardware design of Smart Home Group’s leading products.This position requires someone with a combination of strong technical skills and leadership capabilities. We’re willing to groom a strong technical leader. The role offers an opportunity to be both lead and be hands on in the design process acting as architect, engineer, and designer for some key projects. This allows the Head of Hardware Engineering, Smart Home to lead by example and pilot cutting edge approaches. As an expert technical contributor, the Head of Hardware Engineering, Smart Home is accountable for driving innovation and invention, overseeing all technical work, setting and maintaining design standards, introducing and incorporating the latest design methods and tools, improving internal and external design practices, and keeping our envied reputation for reliability and technology at the forefront of the industry.

Key Qualifications:

For consideration, you must bring the following minimum skills and behaviors to our team:

  • 7+ years of experience with progressively increasing responsibilities in product design, hardware engineering and team leadership
  • Must have strong hands-on knowledge and experience with hardware systems, parts and components such as: audio, video, touch, LCD, antenna, radio, plastics, textures, bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave, RF, IR
  • Ability to create cost effective solutions that meet aggressive product feature, cost, quality, performance, and time to market requirements
  • Experience supporting complete product solutions from concept to grave
  • Experience with digital and analog design and development methodologies
  • Experience with schematic capture tools – Orcad capture, Altium, Allegro etc
  • Experience with layout tools – e.g. Allegro, PCB Pads (mentor graphics)
  • Experience of debugging using high speed scopes and other tools
  • Experience working with offshore ODMs, JDMs, and CMs
  • A“go-getter” with intrinsic ability to get things done and deliver winning products
  • Superior problem solving skills: issue identification, problem structuring, analysis, and development of recommendations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership skills

In addition, preferable skills and behaviors include:

  • Experience as technical/team lead of 5-10
  • Experience with Smart Home hardware technology

Education:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. M.S. degree preferred
