Graphic Designer/Production Artist

Position Summary

The Graphic Artist / Designer is required to perform many functions within the store, including, but not limited to, production of materials for print reproduction by determining prepress requirements, producing layouts of text, illustrations and graphics using computer software. This employee also maintains quality standards and prepress files.

Location: Cambridge, MN

General Duties and Responsibilities

(This is a representative list of the general duties the position may be asked to perform, and is not intended to be all-inclusive) * Determines prepress requirements by reviewing work orders; studying design, content, and specifications.

  • Develops design concepts by evaluating space requirements, type size and style, spacing, and graphics; reviewing customer’s designs.
  • Prepares finished page layouts by writing, editing, keying, and copying text; creating and importing graphics; converting, scanning, and enhancing documents, illustrations, and photographs, into digital images; operating proofing systems.
  • Maintains quality results by editing layouts including spelling, grammer, punctuation, reproduction, clarity, and consistency; adhering to prepress standards.
  • Obtains layout approval by submitting completed design and layout; reviewing and implementing changes.
  • Initiates printing production by transmitting files.
  • Maintains prepress files by filing and retrieving layouts.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting software problems; calling for repairs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Handles walk in and phone in customers.
  • Prepares estimates using our proprietary customer management system.
  • Paper inventory management and ordering.
  • All other duties as needed or required

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education (Associates Degree in Graphic Design preferred) * Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, etc), Microsoft Office * 6+ months of related experience required * Prior experience of printing products & services offerings preferred * Commercial print environment experience preferred * Good verbal and written communication skills
