Graduate Engineer A – Intern Paraprofessional

2017 Austin Energy Summer Internship Program

Student Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be enrolled full-time or recent graduate within the last year (May 2016 -May 2017) of an accredited university or college.

  • Must be classified as a Junior, Senior or Graduate student, or be recent graduate student within the past year of May 2016 – May 2017 with a Minimum of 60 college semester hours.

  • Must provide a transcript and resume.

  • Must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 on 4.0 scale as an undergrad, post grad or recent grad.

    ELECTRIC SERVICE DELIVERY , METERING :

    Intern will assist the metering unit with the commercial meter replacement project. Will be responsible for analyzing test date that is collected in field test units from instrument rated meters being tested before and after exchange. Will develop necessary processes and procedures for the project as they relate to the meter test equipment and analyzing meter test results. Will assist senior CMO engineers on laboratory assignments that stem from the project. They will provide a project update (summary of their findings based on their analysis of test result data).

    ELECTRIC SERVICE DELIVERY , SMART GRID & SYSTEM OPERATIONS :

    Intern will be supporting the Austin SHINES project, a grant-funded project involving the integration of energy storage, solar PV, smart inverters, and a Distributed Energy Resources ( DER ) management platform. Tasks may include coordination for project participation and power systems modeling to understand the impact of solar PV, energy storage and DER assets on the electrical grid.

    CUSTOMER ENERGY SOLUTIONS :

    Intern will be reviewing current Austin Energy, energy efficient engineering calculations and program data with most recent Texas state technical reference manual to determine both the applicability of current energy savings practice and necessary steps to meet data requirements for compliance with the manual.

    POWER SUPPLY & MARKET OPERATIONS , ENERGY MARKET OPERATIONS :

    Austin Energy uses advanced Generation Management System to dispatch its generation fleet in the ERCOT real-time market. Upgrade to the system is underway so the intern will be part of the upgrade team to validate functionalities on the new release to ensure its performance and reliability.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION :

    The 2017 Austin Energy Summer Internship Program will start on June 12, 2017 and end on August 18, 2017.

    Graduates who are not currently enrolled in a post graduate program or who have graduated prior to May 2016 will not be considered for the 2017 Summer Internship Program.

      *Degree in engineering – power system studies preferred.

      *Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

      *Ability to work independently, collaborate with team members, and be flexible in the work environment.

      *Be intellectually curious, analytical and steadfast in finding solutions.

      CUSTOMER ENERGY SOLUTIONS : Preferred Qualifications:

      *Degree work in Engineering required, mechanical preferred.

      *Ability to communicate technical information orally and in writing.

      *Reasonably comfortable performing and defending analyses.

      POWER SUPPLY & MARKET OPERATIONS , ENERGY MARKET OPERATIONS : Preferred Qualifications:

      *Completed major coursework in STEM .

      *Candidate can present past extracurricular STEM projects accomplished.
