Government Affairs Manager

Job Summary

Represents the organization to state governments on proposed legislation that is of vital concern to the organization and customers. Develops and maintains credible and professional relationships with legislatures, various heads of state agencies and their assistants and staff. Appears before legislative committees. May write legislation or amendments to legislation. Plans and executes strategies to ensure that any legislation has a positive or neutral effect on the organization.

The Government Affairs Manager represents the organization before state legislatures on legislation and related public policy matters. Develops and maintains professional relationship with state legislators, staff, Executive branch officials, and relevant state agency personnel. Executes strategies in support of company public policy agenda.

Seasoned professional with experience and knowledge of legislative process, politics, and lobbying. Ability to identify issues that impact corporate goals. Interact with various internal subject-matter experts; discern and shape company position on public policy issues; execute strategy and advocate in a public forum; act independently.

In addition, the Manager is expected to support the government sales division efforts; respond to and resolve consumer complaints received from executive branch officials and legislators; and in a mutually beneficial manner interact with, among other internal departments, Regulatory and Corporate Communications counterparts.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 6 years’ experience/knowledge in the legislative field or policy-making
  • Experience testifying before state legislative committees helpful
  • Ability to manage contract lobbyists from multiple states This position may work from a Sprint location near a major hub or remotely within a major city along the east coast.

This position will be required to travel significantly (~25%) and at times with little advance notice.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and four years related work experience or eight years related work experience post high school

Three years government affairs experience

Preferred Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge of legislative processes and the impact on the overall business strategy
