GL/Project Accountant

As a key member of the accounting team, this individual will split focus on general ledger (GL) accounting and job cost accounting. Within the GL space, they will be responsible for analyzing and verifying complex financial information, preparing financial reporting, reconciling general ledger accounts, and performing month-end close activities. Job costing functions will include providing data, analysis, projections, and reporting for jobs awarded to the company.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Performs basic bookkeeping functions such as posting transactions in the general ledger and making necessary month end journal entries as well as timely reconciliations
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and responsibility for job expense moves
  • Prepare and publish internal month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting
  • Assist company management in financial modeling, forecasting and quantitative analysis for management review
  • Maintain knowledge of the major corporate operating systems and how they interface into the general ledger system
  • Prepare schedules for internal/external auditors in connection with reviews/audits
  • Participate in weekly project performance reviews with division and project managers to review ongoing jobs to help identify variances from an established budget.
  • Prepare financial variance analyses by comparing and analyzing plans and forecasts with actual results and identifying trends and making recommending actions.
  • Prepare presentations, graphs, diagrams and other exhibits to illustrate project and divisional profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and reporting deadlines
  • Interface with and support corporate finance personnel
  • Participate in the continual strengthening of internal controls
  • Perform any other financial duties commensurate with this type of position.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Degreed individuals with a bachelor’s or graduate degree in accounting or finance
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience in financial accounting
  • Active CPA certification strongly preferred; CIA certificate a plus
  • Knowledge of standard accounting practices and procedures required
  • General knowledge of internal controls
  • Personal computing skills with a high degree of competence in Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Able to accept and/or drive change in business processes for quality and efficiency improvement
  • Excellent troubleshooting, listening and problem solving skills
  • Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is a plus
