General Ledger Accountant

Job Description

The primary responsibility of the General Ledger Accountant is to apply the principles of accounting to analyze financial information, reconcile accounts, create adjustments, and prepare financial reports. Qualifications

Principal Accountabilities: 1. Journal Entries: Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as receivables, payables, and the general ledger. Distributes expenditures, encumbrances, receipts, and receivables according to schedules. 2. Financial Reporting: Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for managers. 3. Transaction Processing and Approval: Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits. 4. Compliance: Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures. 5. Data Integrity: Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports. 6. Recommendations: Makes recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures. Conducts studies and submits recommendations for improving the organization’s accounting operation. 7. Data Collection: Assists in collecting appropriate data and in preparing audit information, internal control procedures & policies, and tax returns.

Qualifications/Required Skills of the Position:
Education and/or Experience

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college and two years experience in related work.

Language Skills

Effectively reads, comprehends, and composes simple to complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Effectively communicates verbally and in writing.

Interpersonal Skills

Team player, flexible and accepts changing assignments and accountabilities.

Reasoning Ability

Demonstrates the self-confidence and maturity to make decisions and solve problems with minimal direction. Organized and able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously. Possesses strong analytical, quantitative, communication, problem solving, and technical skills. Has the ability to creatively apply experience and common sense to a variety of situations.

Computer Skills

Proficient is using Microsoft applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Experience with ERP systems is desirable.

Work Environment

The work environment is a traditional office.
