General Accountant

Would you like to make a difference in the lives of others? The Institute for Human Services (IHS), Oahu’s oldest and one of the largest homeless shelters is looking for compassionate and dedicated individuals for a full time General Accountant position.

Responsibilities:

The General Accountant is responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of the General Ledger, its line item components and subsidiary account detail. This individual will be integrally involved in the preparation of the monthly and annual audited financial statements. This position involves reconciling General Ledger account balances with externally sourced documents and internal, system generated details on an ongoing basis. Extensive preparation of excel schedules including formatting for internal and external presentations. Broader involvement with grant billings, budgets, insurance applications, the 990 income tax return, the development of systems and procedures, and the overall functioning of the Finance department.

Minimum Requirements:

This individual should possess strong analytic skills and a proficiency for working with numbers, accounting principles, and financial concepts. Possess a strong proficient in Microsoft Excel. Experience with MIP software a plus but not required. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong networking and team building skills. Able to problem solve, manage and facilitate change processes. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Business Administration or related field with at least 2 years of experience in accounting.
