Gateway Student Services Associate

METROPOLITAN STATE UNIVERSITY, a vibrant and growing public, urban university, is seeking applicants for the position of Gateway Student Services Associate. This is a full-time, probationary position within the Gateway Student Services Center in Academic and Student Affairs. Associates are responsible for advising students regarding their registration, records, financial aid, student accounts and other financial issues within a developmental and retention focused context. Overall, this position will follow student issues through to resolution, which includes use of investigation, professional judgment and individual discretion. The Gateway Student Services Associates will act as student advocates and deliver resolutions in a manner consistent with a “one-stop” approach to student services. Applicants will be required to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:
Advise students by providing in-depth information and expertise on all aspects, policies, procedures, and principles of the Financial Aid process

Advise students by providing in-depth information and expertise on all aspects, policies, procedures, and principles of the records and registration processes

Assist students with reviewing and understanding charges, credits, payments and adjustments as reported on the student account

Serve as a main point of information on all aspects of Metropolitan State University and the Gateway Student Services Center one-stop as well as a resource for safety and security

Advise first-semester and non-degree seeking students with initial course selection

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position:

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution

Three or more years professional experience in an area directly related to student services

This individual must possess thorough knowledge of registration, financial aid, and/or student accounts

This individual must be a dedicated team player and able to work cooperatively with staff, students, faculty, administrators, MnSCU personnel and other stakeholders with limited direct supervision

Background/competence in the use of various software applications, including email, database, spreadsheet, multimedia presentation, customer relationship management tools, and/or word processing

Well-developed and effective problem-solving, mediation and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated understanding and ability to articulate and respond to the needs of students with unique needs and of an ethnically and culturally diverse student body (i.e.: persons with disabilities, adult learners, underrepresented populations, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:
Three or more years of experience in a position providing direct customer service in a college, university, or financial services environment

Understanding of ISRS or other system programs and screens for financial aid, financial management, registration/records and admissions offices

Thorough understanding of policies and procedures related to academic and student affairs

Knowledge of RightNow/Oracle ServiceCloud technology

Knowledge of and adherence to state and federal data privacy regulations

Must possess strong analytical, written and verbal skills

This individual must be able to work accurately in a fast-paced environment and be able to balance multiple competing demands

Strong background in direct service delivery and student service concepts with student-focus

This individual must be able to make independent professional judgments with integrity and within guidelines set by the Registration, Financial Aid and Financial Management offices

Physical Requirements of the Job: Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers and small tools. A certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

The School/Academic Department: The Gateway Student Service Center (Gateway) is a one-stop student service center that is responsible for advising students regarding their registration, records, financial aid, student accounts and other financial issues within a developmental and retention focused context.

Salary: This is a Minnesota State University Association of Administrative and Service Faculty (MSUAASF) Range C position with a salary range of $41,464 (minimum) to $71,819 (maximum). Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) and the MSUAASF organization.
