LOCATION: Grounds

SCHEDULE: Sunday – Thursday, 6am – 230pm

Performs as required, by job order or supervisor’s direction, all grounds keeping functions. Must be able to direct and supervise these functions. Ascertaining that they are in compliance with accepted industry standards and with Facilities Operations policy and procedure. Must maintain and make repairs to grounds keeping, snow removal, gardening and irrigation equipment. Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of plant health care and demonstrate proficiency in operating all grounds equipment. Performs gardening, pruning, and soil preparations as required. Applies fertilizers and pesticides as necessary. Maintain records to ensure routine compliance with all applicable codes and regulations. Gardner shall be skilled in the performance of all phases of irrigation repair and maintenance and shall demonstrate required knowledge and the safe use of equipment and tools; shall have the ability to accurately interpret irrigation blueprints, schematics and diagrams. Ability to diagnose problems, make necessary repairs and adjustments to maintain all irrigation systems in proper working conditions. Ability to install and operate irrigation time clocks and control systems. Ability to maintain records and submit reports on conditions of all irrigation systems. Removes snow, including shoveling, sweeping, sanding plowing and applying de-icer as required. In the event that the supervisor is unavailable during an after working hours emergency, the Gardener shall call in the necessary personnel to make repairs. He/She will respond and direct the work if necessary. Must be available for snow removal on a seven day per week, 24-hour per day basis. Must maintain telephone contact for snow emergency notification. Be aware of conditions and situations that require attentions and advise supervisor accordingly.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

High school diploma or equivalent. Five years as Groundskeeper A or equivalent.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Valid Driver’s License. Certified Pesticide Applicator in Category 3A (Ornamentals and Turf) or the ability to obtain within 90 days.

Preferred Qualifications

Formal training in Turf Management or Certified Arborist and/or Horticulturalist preferred.
