Front-End Developer, SI.com

SI.com is looking for a senior designer/front-end developer to join the Sports Illustrated newsroom. This critical member of the team will be expected to work with designers, editors, video producers, writers and developers to produce technologically sound and visually stunning content for everything from breaking news to long-form narratives.

You must be an expert in HTML5, CSS and JS and have experience working with Node JS, PHP and other common front-end technologies. Applications will not be considered without a portfolio that showcases impeccable responsive design and a strong grasp of layout, typography and general UX principles. The ideal candidate will also have a strong interest in sports, and must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.

This position will report to the Director of Editorial Projects and Product.


You will:

  • Build web pages that delight users and smartly incorporate text, photos, videos and other forms of media
  • Help generate interactive story ideas that fully leverage the potential of digital platforms
  • Translate complex story ideas and concepts into clean, organized wireframes and prototypes
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the company to gather assets and ensure projects meet editorial and business standards
  • Utilize professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Balance multiple short- and long-term projects simultaneously
  • Bring strong visual and interactive design skills to everything you do, from custom web pages to graphics and logos
