Fire & Safety Engineer

Job description: Provide Fire & Life Safety Support to the Laboratory’s Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in the Occupational Safety Program Office (OSPO) with the following responsibilities:

– Provide input concerning fire and life safety compliance issues.

– Identify, assess, and mitigate risk to personnel, mission critical structures and flight hardware.- Provide input on, application of fire codes and referenced codes/standards.

– Enforce policies and procedures relating to fire code/standard.

– Coordinate with JPL institutional organizations, NASA and other agencies and external organizations on fire and life safety issues.

– Provide advice, insight, analysis, and risk assessment of the designs, activities, and operations.- Review and evaluate hazard analysis for performance-based designs applicable to fire prevention and fire protection scenarios.

Required Skills: – Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline with a minimum of 6 years of related experience; Master’s degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 4 years of related experience.

– A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of fire protection engineering.- Working knowledge of State of California Building, Mechanical, Fire Codes, and NFPA standards.- Experience in inspection and testing of fire protection systems, and preparation of field reports.- Strong experience and knowledge in the following areas: principles of fire protection engineering, hydraulics, fire alarm systems, hazard analysis, and performance based design.- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Works well in team environment as lead or team member.

Desired Skills: – Experience in assessing, developing, and implementing effective fire and life safety programs.- Experience and knowledge in the following areas: loss control, risk analysis, process hazard assessment, and chemistry.- Holds a valid California Professional Engineering License in Fire Protection Engineering.Will: – Report to the Manager of the Occupational Safety Program Office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and work under the direction of the Fire & Life Safety AHJ.-

Duration of Assignment: Minimum 6 months

Salary: $80,000.00 to $120,000.00 /year
